I think it goes something like this ...

Mine was £17500 for an ST2 with Mountune fitted (so £16900 without the Mountune which they are fitting free). By the time I added £1500 in extras ...Sony DAB / Sat Nav unit, Climate control, spare wheel, Style pack (smoked alloys are in this) and black metallic paint it goes to £19000.

Take off the £17300 for trading my BMW and I owe them £1700 which as I opted for a Ford Finance option I pay in 2 years ... with no payments in between !

LOL - but which engine would you rather listen to? It's certainly not the Hondas - way too tiring everyday. And the M3 has some power below 5,000RPM!

Hmmm, with an ST-2 and that spec going for £16,597 (+ Mountune) on DTD, guess that's why they gave you £17,300 for your BMW...

Enjoy your ST-2 - don't think you will be bored with it in 6 months at all!

it all depends what you want you want from a car

my advice would have been to go for the fiesta

(though i do find 60hp of 106 alot more involving and fun than the bm)

I am aware of DTD and others but was happy with the quote. The problem comes if trading the BMW - you are always going to have issues if you have cut the dealer to the bone on the new car price. I was told a company like DTD that I could barely expect a trade in price above WBAC if I used them ... thus I decided to go for an 'inbetween' price - if that makes sense. By the time you take into account a poor trade value the cheaper car price is not so appealing.

The other dealer I went to though wanted to give me less than WBAC and charge list for a pre reg !!

I will miss the BMW as is is mint with new wheels, tyres and no rattles or squeaks - but I don't need the size of car any more and for a 3 mile journey if I don't cycle I would do a diesel more damage than good

You've made a good choice in hot hatches. I often consider a swap back to a hot hatch as I'm often on the sorry of roads where one would be more fun than my e90. Luckily my wife's got a fabia vRS that I borrow occasionally!

If it wasn't for where I work and live the BMW would have stayed. Faultless for almost 3 years - expensive yes, but quality. I have had 4 BMW's and all have been brilliant.

I am sure I will be back in a BMW ... Just under 7 years to retirement from my current job and the pension lump sum will have to be spent on something ...who knows how fast the cars will be then

Absolutely true - dealer has to make a margin somewhere to pay for their posh dealership. Although BMW dealers usually like to have all their profit in the new car/not discount and offer you nothing for your part ex. They want their (your) cake AND eat it.

Have you watched this, apparently the Fiesta ST is more fun than the E46 M3.

Borrowed from this thread where the Fiesta is getting rave reviews (by the yanks).

I have seen it thanks. I found the straight six a bit too linear for my liking in my Z4M Roadster ... very quick but didn't really feel it or exciting - just like they said in this review ! It makes a nice noise though ... albeit a bit quiet.

A similar comparison (kind of)

I have had an E92 335d (345-350hp) and an now on my 2nd E46 M3 (CS). My miswah has a Pug 208 GTi which is the direct rival of the fiesta ST with the same HP and performance with 1.6 turbo engines.

I really enjoy the 208 GTi, It's a cracking little car which is fast and fun. But the M3 absolutely monsters it. It every way.

Like I said in my last post, I drive regularly a car very similar to the ST. I also own an M3. The M3 is a proper sports car. It's so direct and responsive. The little hot hatches are fun but in no way a sports car. You cannot compare them really other than in price.

I have more fun in the RWD LSD' M3 than a fwd hot hatch for sure.

I know what you mean. I am not trying to compare them - just coming from a TVR Griffith, 2 S2000's a Z4M R onto a couple of diesels and now a Fiesta seems odd ... though how I am using my cars has changed and the Beemer is not getting used in the way it should. Where I live in the suburbs of London means it is probably what I should have had a few years ago !!

DMS are coming to remove the remap soon so it's back to 6 to 60 for me ... hardly a hardship - then to 6.4 to 60 when the Fiesta arrives

The 0-60 may not be much for you but the 50-90 probably will see
Quite a difference.

But it will be fun car, you will enjoy it. Good luck.

Ps what is a Z4M R?

I know higher speeds will not be the same - the remapped 330d LCI flew above 60 ... not quite like a remapped 335d but still indecently quick and without the 335d's twin pipes it was very much a stealth machine.

Z4 M R .... BMW Z4 'M' Roadster - same engine as the E46 M3 ... 0-60 in 4.9 0-100 in 11.

I guess the 330d remapped is around 13-13.5 to 100 ... as it was 15 standard. The Fiesta Mountune'd is 15.4 to 100 according to a road test which in that little car will be enough for me.

A couple of years and knowing me I will be back in something quicker - C63 AMG is one I have kept looking at but just don't need at the moment ... sadly
