Lysol vs specific formula A/C vent cleaners

Internet has a slew of DIY's using products to spray in to A/C vents to remove odors, mildew and crud. Some just use household Lysol while others use more specific versions with hoses that are supposed to be inserted in all of the A/C vents.
With my E93, I can spray in to the vents but one video showed a different version; removing the cabin filter under the hood and spraying directly over the exposed and running fan.
For those of you who have completed A/C DIY's, which products and procedures do you recommend?

This would be the procedure I'd follow, matter of fact I've been meaning to do it for like 6 months now lol
