Just wondering if I need any particular specialist tools for the DMF and Clutch change?


eg clutch alignment tool etc?

You need an alignment tool but they usually come with the clutch kit.

I recommend that you will also need:

E size sockets for gearbox and starter bolts (not that common)
3 or 4 long extension bars and a swivel joint
T60 torx for flywheel bolts
Loctite for flywheel and clutch bolts

In addition to the usual sockets and hex sockets to take everything else off. I've done 3 in total (all 335i) but it isn't too difficulty at all, just needs an extra pair of hands to help guide the socket onto the top gearbox bolts. Unfortunately there isn't space to go over the top of the engine through the bay, not sure about the 330d mind you.
