CCC CarPlay Audio with 6FL

Hello e90post,
Last night I installed the Kremersino CarPlay unit on my 2008 E93 with CCC and 6FL, and there's no audio. As I'm sure you know, AUX runs from the center console to MULF, so of course AUX in the head unit is disabled and unlike CIC, there's no CDMM_AUX_HU or any of that. So I imagine there are two options:

1. Splice the audio pins from the quadlock. Assuming this is correct, I could grab any 3.5mm stereo cable, cut off the female end, and wire to pins C2, C7, and C8. Is there any way I could route under the shift boot (6MT) to the center console without cutting holes?

2 (the ideal). Somehow remove 6FL and just use a regular car charger that might actually charge my phone. Has anybody done this successfully and enabled the head unit AUX? I removed it from my FA on CAS and FRM and re-coded all of the CCC units, however it still works through the USB/AUX adapter in the center console so I imagine nothing has changed (so I reverted). Am I maybe missing something?

Thanks, and happy holidays

After a very long day, I have come to a solution. As far as I know it should work on any CCC e9x until 2009 with S6FL (you need a cooled cupholder for the vent), and keeps that functionality should you want it. If anybody knows how to remove the feature simply by coding, feel free to share. I have a few pictures that I will edit tomorrow once I'm at my PC.

What you need:
- Aux cord (I picked up a generic one at frys for $3)
- Generic wire crimping stuff

Here's a step-by-step:

1. Cut one end off and strip the wires so that you have a male aux end, a left and right channel wire, and a ground wire. Use a multimeter to determine which wire is left and which is right.

2. Remove the shifter knob, boot, and foam.

3. Remove the entire center console panel. It comes off easily by prying up clips starting by the iDrive controller. You don't need to undo any connections, just move it aside.

4. Feed the exposed wires through the exhaust vent in the center console (otherwise known as the coin holder). Keep feeding until you see them through the gap between the center console and the iDrive controller area. Pull it through with a finger once you do.

5. Route the aux cable next to the iDrive controller wire, in the gap through where the shifter compartment would be.

6. Route the aux cable up against the MMI stack bottom, and up through the gap between the module carrier. You can then route it over the metal retaining clip and under the carrier yet again.

7. Cut the #2, 7, and 8 pin wires on the passthrough harness, connector X13813 (not your stock one of course, and do note that TIS seems to have X13813 and X13814 swapped in the e90 ccc diagram. The correct 12-pin block is on the side of the fiber optic MOST loop cables). In the case of kremersino, they were red (left channel), white (right channel), and black (ground).

8. Crimp the left channel of the aux cord to the #2 pin wire, the right channel to the #3 wire, and ground to #8. Tape everything up to make sure it doesn't come undone, this isn't a fun job and you surely don't want to do it twice.

9. Enjoy your CarPlay audio with minimal obstruction

Awesome write up. I am looking to replace my screen as it appears that it has died. The one problem i have seen from most of these units is the sound quality is not good. Have you tested the sound quality?

He said it sounds really good. I haven't heard it for myself yet but he seems really pleased, so it definitely can't be noticably bad.

I do wonder what BT codec it uses but we'll find out.

As Jon said, it seems actually better to me than the adapter part no. 61122408012. I've always noticed that the E93 with that adapter didn't have the same clarity as our E90 over just aux (I never tried that on the E93 to be fair), but with this unit I think it's pretty close. Do note that this is not the screen, it's just a passthrough box that intercepts aux and audio/video/controls for iDrive.

Oh so you did not replace your screen with an android tablet?
