what is the difference between professional navigation & business navigation system

Hello,

can you guys tell me what are the differences between the Professional Navigation and Business Navigation Systems, in addition to the difference in size.

i asked the BMW garage and was told that with the business version you could either navigate or use the entertainment system (music), with the professional version, you could listen to music and navigate at the same time, is that true?

are there any other differences?

As a US client, I didn't have an option and got Professional, but I believe that Business Nav has a smaller screen (no assistance window), and may not be able to show actual maps, only arrows. I am also not sure about things like "Information" (POI search).

No reason you can't listen to music whilst navigating with the Business Nav system - that's rubbish.

Regarding other differences, screen size is smaller, there is no assist window, maps are limited, and there is no Voice Command.

I was wondering the same between the Professional and Business radio. Except the business one has one line and the pro has two lines on the screen, as I can read in the BMW papers, what are the real differences ?

Well, you probably found the biggest difference but I believe power output is less on the Business Radio (not 100% sure though).

The main difference is you get 3D maps for prof and only 2D on business (from sept. 2007 build cars, pre that date you got arrows only) and you get a dedicated drive on the prof. nav, so you can have and mp3 cd in one drive and your map disc in another, where as on the buisness nav you have to use ipod, radio or usb when using the nav.

If you are looking at getting a car now, then I would say hold off for the sept. build if you are getting nav, the new system has hi-res graphics, 80gig hard drive for music, 1280x720 resolution and internet. It will make the existing iDrive look pretty basic.

If you are getting an editions model, then you can pay £380 over the standard £1000 for all the toys and upgrade to pro nav. But I would wait for the facelift model.

thanks for the replies,

what is an assist window? so the maps are limited to 2 dimensions on the business version

i thought the business version had a cd and the professional one had a cd and a dvd. at least that is what i was told, with the maps going onto the cd for the business version and the dvd for the professional version
if this is true, does that mean that you have 6 times more maps on the professional version as compared to the business version(700 MB on cd as compared to 4.7 GB on professional).

will the september version be out 1st of september, i am planning to get a company car, dont know if the fleet car guys will try to fob me off with the older pre-september model

Assist window means you get the map on 2/3 of the screen and the other 1/3 will have either arrows, OBC etc. or you can have your mp3's in the left window and map or arrows in the smaller right hand (assist) window. Professional only.

All nav systems are now DVD, no 3D on business and only one drive.

No, the new 3 series is from Sept. build for first deliveries in October.
