What was the difference in measurement between an oem n54 TB and the RR TB on there right now?

I see some dude selling one for mad cheap in the FI classifieds right now... and the fancy OFH too :O

Why N54 intake manifold instead of 3 stage?

I don’t remember but it was very close. The WCR TB is just under 80mm. If I could do it again I’d do the N54 and save the $.

I had a 3 stage originally and it fell flat after 6500 rpms. The n54 manifold makes power all the way to 7500 and makes more peak power than a 3 stage. The compromise is the n54 makes less power in the midrange. There’s dynos and lots of info in this thread...

...and with your 3.91 rear, the mid range loss is less of a concern! Great looking car, excellent contributions in the N/A forum.

Yes exactly! When I swapped from the 3 stage manifold to the N54 manifold I also swapped from a 3.73 to a 3.91 rear end. This made up the midrange shortage.

I know you didn't baseline dyno but I still think it would be worthwhile to see the sum of all your mods on a dyno.

I’m pretty curious myself to know what it would be, but now it seems kinda pointless. It could say 270whp or 230whp we all know there are so many variables the only thing you can really look at is power changes made on the same dyno on the same day. Everything is so variable.

I’ll say this, pretty much every engine mod I’ve done had dynos out there from others who had paved the way. I also did extensive testing of my own using my Dragy satellite timing device. Like 2 weeks ago I changed from the AFE airbox back to the stock airbox and added the Ram intake. This is the changes I documented:

AFE Stage 2 Sealed Intake:

Stock Airbox, Charcoal Delete, K&N Drop In, Ram Intake:

Both airbox set ups tested on same road, same amount of gas, multiple passes each way on the road to equalize wind variables. The only variable I couldn’t equalize for was temperature. But I then corrected for the temperature and weather data using the Dragtimes D/A calculator.

This shows what experience has told me is about a 3hp increase using the stock airbox combo. I don’t even know if a dyno could demonstrate that accurately.

Almost every mod on my car has been tested like this by me.

Nice! Being a 335i owner (There are too many of us!), I'm actually glad to see some 328i builds out there. Have you suggested adding an M-Tech rear bumper as well?

Thanks. I have thought about it but didn’t want to spend money replacing a perfectly good rear bumper. (My front was changed to M sport after a fender bender and insurance paid for a new one.)

I’m pretty sure someone texting will tap my rear bumper in the next few years and I’ll maybe change it to an M sport rear when that happens lol

I got rear ended in my M-sport so I got a Euro diffuser out of the insurance claim. They also replaced my eBay high kick spoiler with an OEM BMW Performance Carbon fiber piece

Well-documented and inspiring build. I love projects like this - it's stands out (in a good way) from the many track / power builds commonly seen in the turbo and M communities, and it seems well executed and tasteful.

You had a clear vision of what you wanted to build and then executed the vision. There are so many big projects built to conquer the Nurburgring (or insert legendary track of choice here), when in fact the sweet spot is right here - a reliable daily that performs way beyond its class, is stylish, and generates big smiles behind the wheel.

Thanks for sharing.

I’m up to 85k miles now. Seeing as how there’s quite a few n52 328i over 200k and some over 300k miles on this forum, I feel like mine is just about broken in now lol. I have no concerns about reliability.

Did you notice any improvement in handling with the tower brace or mostly for looks? Also, is it a direct swap with the 435 front brakes?
