Evap leak n52
So after about 3 weeks of doing a 3 stage manifold swap I got a service engine soon light. The close gas cap light came on as well. I went to advance auto to scan the code and I got a P0442 code. Hoses everything seems fine to me. Car runs the same. Any ideas what may be the issue because of the manifold change or should I do a smoke test?

Smoke test for leaks. If nothing, I'd suspect the DTML pump

My car has had a 2a16 leak for a while, I replaced the DMTL pump and gas cap. It turned out to be the same tube as this post http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=991841
Picture shows my hand (blue glove top right) holding the tube away from the offending AC line (see linked post). P/N 13907530976 To get an idea of where this is located, it’s basically below the intake, in the area made available by moving the power steering reservoir. You can see the steering shaft so that might help get you oriented. I could feel the tubing worn down. I removed the air box to get the front end of this tube section unclipped. The tube section is about a foot long. The lower end is by the firewall, but I had to remove the underbody transmission shield and get under the car to get it clipped in on replacement. Interesting, so do you guys recommend adding the 1/2" pipe insulation to prevent this?
I assume you only need to remove the air intake box, or is better to do underneath the car? |

I have 173K miles on my car, this issue came up in the fall. You can check on this issue by moving the power steering fluid reservoir out-of-the-way. That’s just two 10 mm nuts. Feel around for a flat spot worn by that metal connector on the AC hose. If you end up needing to remove the section I would recommend removing the air filter box (on N52). Was just able to remove the lower connector by the firewall from the power steering reservoir spot but it was a very tight space for my arm. I had to reattach it underneath which probably gives a lot more access for removal anyway. Tools needed are 8mm and 10mm sockets/wrenches and the torx screw for the intake, T25 if I recall correctly |

The corrugated line is a vacuum line? It looks like wiring loom? |

The corrugated line is part of the evap control system. Not exactly vacuum, but the DMTL pump pressurizes the system to check for leaks.
It doesn't look right on this diagram, but this is the part number:13907530976 http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...34#13907530976 Looks like this: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...e/13907530976/ Last edited by djh2; 04-25-2018 at 03:34 PM.. |
