Looking into doing a m3 gauge cluster retrofit

I read a few old forums and it seems like the general consensus is that we can't get the shift lights working. A quick youtube search and I found this video posted about half a year ago:

I have a 2008 e90 328i, was wondering if anyone around the San Jose area can do this retrofit for me. Not sure if the shift lights will work, but I would like the cluster anyways

easy solution:

He used a third party aftermarket shift light kit with the signal coming from the OBD to run them, I believe. It's not OE shift lights. OE M3 DCT shiftlights receive the signal from the DME with the shift light leds integrated on the PCB.

That's what I was thinking, the performance steering wheel with the rev counter has some way of getting the shift lights to work too. Was thinking it was from the obd too.
