No heat shield?

Do your E90's have a heat shield(liner) under the hood? Mine didn't come with one. I'm wondering if the car just didn't come with one from the factory or did the previous owner remove it for some reason. . Hasn't caused any paint damage YET. But, can all the heat from the engine fade the paint on the hood down the line? I can get a heat shield for $103

I believe 335i did not come with one, while other E9x models did. Likely because the 335i engine/compartment gets so hot, they want that heat out, not trapped in.

I've got a 2009 BMW 328. I contacted the previous owner, he said the car never came with one when he brought it brand new. After 11 years and 71k miles, the hood paint seems to be fine.

It does exist, and I know I've seen various photos of E9Xs with it installed.

LCI models had it deleted due to BMW doing some cost cutting. (same with deleting the Alarm pre-wire, BT pre-wire, Trunk key etc)

Pre-LCI models all had it

Also its more of a noise/sound damper to reduce the engine volume than a heat shield

My 2010 E92 is Pre-LCI and it never had it...maybe they started deleting it at the same time as the E90 LCI rolled out, since that came sooner.

Interesting but yes I am speaking for just the E90s. E92/E93 probably for the post sept 2008 build changed

My 2009 335 doesn't have it and neither does my 09 328(late 08 build). But our 2007 335 does.

My 2011 LCI with M57 diesel has the hood insulation. Cooler running engine though.
