What are the details of the install? How do you receive the tv signals? Does it require another antenna or can it use the existing radio or Sat. antenna?

These are cool but i sure hope drivers aren't using that while they are driving.

I read that you car has to be in PARK (for autos) with the E brake up in order to watch something.

There's just an additional wire that instead of hooking up to the power in the parking brake, you hook it up to ACC so to have constant power, and you will be able to have TV while driving. It's very simple, I did so in my previous two cars.

I've had it in my last two cars, for total of 5 yrs, haven't had a problem. I dont stare at it, I just glance at it from time to time. It makes road trips a lot more enjoyable. 2 movies and you're to vegas, three and you're at frisko. It actually helps me stay awake during long drives, so I'd say it's safety feature for me

Hey, timzerofive - from what I'm looking at, it appears that the inputs are only DVD or back-up camera. So I'm assuming the only video you get to watch are DVD videos unless you happen to have a really good antenna (or hell, even a satellite dish) mounted on your car with a built-in TV tuner that goes into the RGB interface this company provides. Or the car's fin antenna has TV reception capabilities. Would be even better if there's a unit around with built-in TV tuner that can play DivX or a unit that reads off of either CD/DVD, DivX or MPEG (aka Philips DVP-642 DVD player for home).

This doesn't sound too shabby an idea for just $550 although I would be a bit concerned about BMW finding out and voiding any warranty(ies). I'd use it more so for my significant other, who has pretty bad indolence in the car during roadtrips.

In response to ihavedrivenanm1, it doesn't matter too much about the resolution of the screen. Have you ever watched a PSP movie on the PSP? Actually fares pretty well...well, sufficient enough to grasp the pith of whatever you're watching.

Sounds good - so who's going to be the guinea pig?

TV antenna built for cars usually does have RCA output so simply purchasing an antenna made by company such as pioneer or kenwood should be sufficient. I don't think it would void any warranties being that it doesn't cut any wires and is plug and play. When I had the TV before, they had few small antenni(? spelling?) thats attached to windows and they get fairly well receptions in LA county, not so good in Orange county. Direct TV antenna they have for sale for cars are good but that's a little too big right now.

Resolution should be good too as you can see people who has done this on previous navi screen and current 5 series idrives look very good.

timzerofive, how do you get the audio from DVD player to the unit? Or harder yet, from the TV antenna to the unit? The website mentions using a RF transmitter. I'm assuming from this, they mean to put the DVD audio out into an RF transmitter, which transmits audio via RF to another RF transmitter hooked into the audio system potentially via aux-input?

Well that really depends on what type of input our car has from factory. Worse comes probably rig something up so it goes into our aux port. But to be honest, this wouldn't be the unit I'd opt to put into my car. I will look for something thats more direct, but since this appears to be the only thing available right now that's plug & play, I'm just passing the news on to everyone. I'm still hoping for that rumored factor tv tuner in europe to be made available here by some aftermarket vendor who can upload the software to make it work directly with iDrive.

I dont know if thats ever going to happen. Europe runs on PAL and SECAM, which is what the european TV tuners are made to receive and process; the US runs on NTSC. The 50 and 60Hz systems are incompatibile with each other and wont work if you just bring one over and upload the software.
In addition, you will only be able to pic up the local channels that are broadcasted in limited areas where as most of the european channels are broadcasted throughout their broadcast country.

I am wondering the same thing. Are you planning on watching it while driving? I have mobiTv and full length movies on my Treo650, but have never considered having them play while I am driving.

I am guessing that it is something to impress visitors to the vehicle? I have to admit, I would think it was cool if I saw that on a nav screen.

I bet you don't have heated seats at home either haha. everyone's got thier own interests, i think it's a cool product, but to many of my friends have been pulled over and cited for watching DVDs while driving. so its not for me either.

I am not sure about having TV on in the car, but I definitely have a few at home. My main issue is that people cannot even drive their cars when they are on the phone (present company excluded, obviously! ) and now they are making it possible to watch TV while driving? Seems like a dangerous combination.

BTW HDTV & Tivo rule!

True. But then, who wants to be Fred Flintstone? (Fred Feuerstein where I come from )

Nah, I donīt need a set. I used to have one and found that watching is the biggest waste of time a human could engage in.
Itīs just not for me....

And definitely not in a car. And not in the cars around me if you please....
