If it means less "tuned" G35s, Altimas, etc. I'm all for it.
And let's be honest, flashing to stock once every ___ years really isn't a big deal...some folks just love to find things to complain about (and usually, it's folks with nothing better to do than rant about a state they don't even live in)

Thanks for the correction...I forgot that cars 8+ years old need it every 2. I don't know where I got 6 from.

Your probably renembered "6" because it used to be first 6 years of a new car was smog exempt. Now it's 8. But the non exempt cars have always been every 2

I was just about install MHD on my 335.
I have JB4 now and I'm due for smog in Sept, car is FBO, stock turbos. If I disable JB4 with Map 0 it won't be a problem right? |

Thank god for that, I don’t want to breathe your smoke and you can do it inside your car with the windows rolled up or in your house. Same with your diesel black smoke. If there was a way to reroute this into the cabin, I would be totally fine with no exhaust restrictions.

Simply more proof that California is a nanny state.
HOWEVER, as others have alluded to, it's very difficult to leave California. The state has so much to offer and there's so much to do. As a car enthusiasts it is the best state period. Once you get away from the traffic you will find the best driving roads in the world. Perfect climate and vibe. When I lived in the Northwest and Midwest in comparison, the weather sucks for a solid 6-8 months of the year. Dark, gloomy, wet, cold, etc. Sucks all the fun out of life. Terrible places to be into cars.

I'd love to live in cali... if i had the money. right now i'd probably have to downgrade my GT3 to a base carrera or something. and live in a smaller house. and pay more taxes. i dont think cali even offers trade in sales tax credit on cars... which saved me 10k on my gt3 purchase.
not worth it for me. but i'm an introvert. i dont need to socialize. for an extrovert it makes complete sense. |

Lord knows there are tons of cars running around with 'inadequate' tunes that don't do much but make a burbly sound for the driver(mostly only the drivers enjoyment). I'm willing to bet that these tunes are exhausting more pollutants than truly needed into the air. The solution is Carb Approved tunes made by companies in the biz that have been doing this for ages. Companies that know what they are doing. |

Perfect,
Your right. Cali sucks because; - The weather is terrible. - WORST roads in the world to drive. Hiway 1 is absolutely horrid. Don't ever go ever drive that road as there are WAY too many distractions. Like pretty views and neat beaches. Yuk. - There is SO much fresh food it will make you sick. - The car culture is terrible. Only about 100-200 people show up to our C&C's. ANd there are like NO Porsche's or fancy exotics to look at. SO boring. - There are non-ICE cars EVERYWHERE. Scary huh? - All those E-cars are actually making the air better for some of us. Blasphemy! - Californians are crazy. I have heard of people skiing in the morning, mountain biking in the afternoon followed by sail around the Bay to watch the sunset. Why on earth would you want to do something like that? Crazy i tell ya.... I could go on and on. And I agree. I would TOTALLY stay away from Cali, it is a nasty, yucky state. I don't blame all the hundreds of thousands of people that are leaving... I bet this new law created a MASS exodus of biblical proportions. josh |

If this is to crack down on burble tunes, good riddance they can have it. My ST 335is would never pass smog anyways, so it's registered out of state. Hot smog on a OBDI car is super easy. Now hot smog on an OBDII is impossible, but registering it or transferring the title without a smog cert is possible. Not sure how, but I've had people do it for me successfully.
There's always a workaround and it's currently 80* outside in mid July with no humidity, the mountains are beautiful and full of great roads to drive. Car shows are weekly within an hour away and when the Senna came out, all 6 in existence were at Monterey car week. The screams from the haters got a nice ring to it, though

Even if you own a business (which I'll assume you do, judging purely based on where you live and what you drive), which can operate equally out of Mountain View, CA or Mountain View, MO...the added value of your network and appreciation of your commercial property alone will make up for cost of living. |

I wouldn’t even venture to guess what portion of the tuning industry is not carb certified. I know even a lot of Dinan tunes are not carb legal. |

What’s the over/under when Cali adopts exhaust noise level regulations similar to Europe. All the new cars from Europe are a lot more quiet. The old valved exhaust trick doesn’t work, since they test all new vehicles in their loudest setting. New regs also dropped the sound limit. All in an effort to “minimize noise-related stress”. Cali almost didn’t get the manual GT3 Touring because of sound levels.

Won't matter really since stock cars aren't the problem. They're already quiet as it is. The real nuisance are all the shitboxes with burble tunes. It's not an issue I experience in the Bay Area due to its more civilized demographic and extreme socioeconomic homogeneity, but it's really bad in LA. Regardless of where you are, the noise of cars across the entire spectrum winding out a few gears is endless through the night. If you see a Lambo, clapped out black Infinity, or kid in an F30 at a traffic light, you can bet your last penny it's going WOT when the light turns green. Followed by burbles.
But hey...I like some cars loud. |
