I think Efthreeoh reported there was a software upgrade from the dealer that fixed this.

Since this issue has become known, people that throw parts at problems without diagnosing first are buying them and that has driven the price up.

Just to followup, I did another 40k miles since I found the ugly metal shavings and all is a-ok.

Does the N55 have these? Can't find it on realoem or elsewhere so I assume not.

Here is what mine looked like after 251,712 miles of 7k mile oil changes. I replaced them because I had them but I would say I waisted $50.

So after a week on the new VANOS Check valves there’s a definite improvement in low end power. So for the hell of it I ran a 0-60 check with my ScanGauge and it shows a .4 second improvement in 0-60. It’s not much but I will take it.

I know this is a super old thread but any further update? Just found metal shavings in my check valves.

I have just replaced these, aswell as my VANOS solenoids.

Very soon after I now have a "tuner" style exhaust sound and a lean trim code. Is it possible one of these isnt quite torqued properly and leaking air?

Or should I look elsewhere?
