I remember there being a discussion awhile back where PencilGeek was talking about an online subscription where you could code the car with the new updates... I'll have to ask him about that.

I'm currently updating all of the DATEN and SGDAT files to v.59 into my NCS. Looks like it's adding a ton of support for newer modules and increasing the amount of stuff you can do on the old ones

Hey Mike, how can you tell what version of your DATEN/SGDAT files you have? I know I've got some files from like June 2011 from earlier in this thread but I'm not sure of my file number. Thank's for joining the discussion!

You can update individual modules. That said - I'm unfortunately far from being an expert on it ... hell, I haven't ever flashed any of mine and am not going to (although I'd _love_ to get v39 and up on my R56...... fixes torque steer ).
What can v.39 do for your torque steer? Can you elaborate?

I am currently working on getting V39 working in a virtual machine. Once I get it working I can send it over to you.

I am also working on getting the following to work:
1) Carsoft v6.5
2) GT1 v.44
3) GT1 v.57
4) GT1 v.52

For version .39, I have DIS, GT1, SSS, and CIP

All works in progress. So far I have all of the files and everything, just need to configure the VM's and set up the networking connectivity.

There is an online subscription site which you have to pay to receive the latest updates. But these latest updates can only be applied via WinKFP, for your VIN number. Which means you cannot load any custom ECU software with the offical BMW tools.

There are other software out there, however they are more difficult to find and somewhat harder to use... well if you know what your doing then its fairly straight-forward. Selling a tune is a very scalable business, which is why AA and other tuning companies make big money.

I have v.40 already, DATUM dated - 18.10.2010

I would like to know how to get the latest GT1 running on a correct laptop. Carsoft 6.5 is silly, I have checked it out on a buddies computer and I like the BTool's interface much better.

Yes - this is easy.

It's either in the NFRM/FRM or CAS, can't remember. The function for it is REGENSCLIESSENTILT

If you set it to active, the sunroof will close when rain is detected (if the auto rain sensing button is on). I tried it and verified it the other day. Worked beautifully. The sunroof closed immediately after the windshield wipers went off.

Also, the function to unlock all of the doors when the key comes out works great too!

BTW - I'm accepting donations too! Anyone who donates gets my full tech support and maybe some files

Thanks for the kind words

I am using daten files from v57 or v59, cant remember.

If you send me some of your daten files, I can confirm if they are newer or older than the ones I have. There are also other files other than the daten files that need to be updated for everything to work in harmony, and to add functionality on newer cars and for newer functions.

Regardless I'd like to have a repository anyway of newer and older files.

mbenvo@gmail.com

PS: My understanding is that if the VO is changed, when the dealer recodes your car, you will receive the updated files for whatever is in your VO. That's why it's a very touchy area and why BMW doesn't want anyone changing the VO. It takes money out of BMW's pockets for retrofits, etc, and ensures that your cars files will be updated when programmed at the dealer (even for options that never were in your car leaving the factory).

I'll donate to those to help the community -- again it's the commie in me.

But keep us updated guys with what you discover and hopefully someone will lead us all in the direction of how to do it ourselves and where to find the files.

I'm talking about DIS/GT1/SSS versions. I think you are referring to ISTA? I could be confusing myself...

I spoke with Pencilgeek on the phone a few minutes ago, and it turns out that v.59 might be the last update we get for the daten files, since all of the new updates are done through BMW's online system, which means that the core files we need for updates will probably not be easy to get. Time tells all takes!

I'm gunna be so excited when I get my first donation... haha

I'm referring to ISTA only because people on this thread are on the topic of NCS Expert and WinKFP.
DIS/GT1/SSS IMO are too complicated for your average reader on e90post.

BMW Online update system = jetstream

I would like to have a DIS/GT1/SSS system running, but it's too much to fiddle around with. Unless there's a real easy way to run it on a non-IBM lappy then I would be happy!

You can run it on a non IBM lappy as long as the configuration is correct and you use a VM.

I'm working on it day by day, it's a lot of work but I'm confident I'll have it up and running if I dedicate a couple days to it. I've had NCS on my laptop for over 5 years, never opened it, never knew what it did. A couple weeks ago is when I started poking around and figuring it all out.

My main interest at this point is the vehicle order. Anyone have the VO list for E90x vehicles?

This is the vehicle order from my car (has every option from the factory but DCT + added factory alarm and TV coding from the dealer, so might be two more things on there than a stock car):

E90_$223$2MD$2MT$2VB$313$319$322$3AP$403$415$417$4 31$441$459$465$490$494$4AE$4MY$4NA$502$507$521$522 $524$534$540$563$5DC$609$620$639$645$653$655$694$6 FL$6UH$752$760$775$818$845$853$876$925$999$877$601 $704-A090+K302+NSBK

I would love to know the other options codes / possible retrofits. Someone help?

SSS is nice since it integrates everything for you. I ran it and it told me I needed 12 modules updated. This would have taken 18 hors or more in SSS, but it gave me the UIF numbers I needed to use with WinKFP. I did all 12 with WinKFP in about 4 hours.

Ahh! so we have someone who's used WinKFP... Care to enlighten me on how to use it and get the latest updates from BMW?

Just verified WinKFP is working... going to try and plug it into my M3 on Thursday to see what I can do with it...

Do you know what version you were using? I wonder if mine is the latest or close to it:

Here's the bottom line for me, I'm not looking to update modules or anything like that so I don't know that I need to get as deeply involved as WinKFP referenced above. Doing something that can have me visiting the dealer with my tail between my legs isn't on the top of my to-do list. However, I would like to add a few OE options to my car including the factory alarm (option code somewhere in this thread), portable navigation (not sure about the option code), and HIDs (option code $522 as far as I can tell) and I know this involves changing the VO. I am confident that, upon receiving the proper cable interface, I will be able to successfully update the VO to include these options, assuming I can find the option code for all of them. If I then take my car to a dealer at some point, am I understanding correctly that any dealer updates will include these new options? I'm worried that the dealer programming will delete them or something back to the original coding my vehicle came with.

Going along with that, does anyone know the option code for the dealer-installed portable navigation? The car needs to be coded after install to get the radio to mute and the navigation instructions to be heard through the car stereo.

I've got a 2006 E90 so V32 from ProgmanSSS had the latest daten I needed. After V32, I believe BMW adopted ISTA/P as the "new" progman and although I've heard of some success with importing programming daten from later versions, all I've ever bothered with is V32.

For some things, I prefer Progman. Like my alarm retrofit. I used NCSExpert to add the FA ($302) to the VO but it had a weak beep on lock/unlock (barely audible) and some other stuff didn't work right. I deleted it from my VO with NCS, then went through the long process of retrofitting it using Progman and now everything works like I expected it to. Comparing the trace files from NCS before and after Progman shows a bunch of stuff changed that I'd never have figured out in a million years doing plug-n-chug trial and error with NCS.

Since I'm still learning what exactly can I do with

1) Carsoft v6.5
2) GT1 v.44
3) GT1 v.57
4) GT1 v.52

Also, does progmann work with 2010 + cars? or it's only for older cars. I currently use NCS to code things but are those programs better?

From my understanding GT1 is a base program. then you can install diagnostic tool like DIS or an technical information like TIS. You can also install SSS to code things. Progman is a stand alone tool also used for coding especially for retrofitting.

I spend two months trying to set all of them up correctly. they are a pain in the ass to install since you have to use VMware and have to be very specific (i think you had to have a harddrive set to 18.65 gigs) even after I got them installed, I found it very difficult to get communication with the car. That's how I ended up with NCS expert. not much information in this forum but feel free to google all software is around in torrents and in rapidshares. I think i still have a copies hiding behind some folders.

hope that answers some questions.

Gene,

I used NCS to activate my alarm too and you are correct, the beep is hardly audible outside my garage. How do I make the beep audible louder. Could I use the long process with the cable that I already have and how is this long process work and is it easy to learn like with NCS?

Is WinKFP the same thing as Progman?

Getting Progman setup and running is probably not worth the trouble (it took me months to get everything right). How about this? Backup your trace files for DWAI and DWAS and then code your alarm with my trace files and see if that fixes it. I've been wondering if that would do it, or if progman may have set some other setting in some other module. I should have done a complete trace before and after. If it works, then maybe we can track down the exact changes needed to help any other alarm retrofitters out there.
