roundel335... my understanding of ecu mods is that, in the eyes of BMW, said mod voids your warranty provided by BMW NA. Also, I have read numerous accounts of people that have had their factory warranty revoked by BMW after an ecu mod was discovered. From the accounts I have heard, the revocation has occurred when the individual has taken their vehicle in for work to be done under warranty. On the flip side, I have also read numerous accounts from people who have brought their ecu modded car into BMW for routine service and have not experienced any problems. Now what i surmise is that you have yet to have any warranty work done on your vehicle and have only taken it in for service. Also, it may have something to do with your service dept; some of the techs are more mod friendly than others.

oh i almost forgot. first to preface, i have not had first hand experience with Dinan or their ecu upgrades; however, from second hand accounts and research on their website I have come to the understanding that certain mods (i.e. the ecu flash) do void your BMW factory warranty.... although dinan, in turn, picks up the warranty where BMW left off. therefore, since you have ht Dinan flash, your BMW warranty does not exist; Dinan now bears the responsibility of said warranty... anyone please correct me if i have misspoken. or verify if you can.

trojan4evr... before you go with the BMW power pack, IMO you should do a bit more research as it is pretty expensive relative to the hp/tq gains you experience. I also remember reading that adding a piggyback to the power pack does not add more power than just the piggyback alone because the piggy back does some of the same things that the power pack does but to a greater extent. but dont take my word for it; put some time in and read up on it. i would hate to see you waste any money when it could be better spent on something else. good luck either way bud!

sheesh i am not on my game tonight... i forgot to mention that aside from the minimal software upgrade for the ecu, probally the best thing about the bmw power pack is the bigger fan and intercooler. butttttt you can do yourself a favor and buy the bigger fan and cooler separately and update the software with a piggyback for aroudn the same price and the power pack and get a heck of a lot more power. just my 2 sents

N54 Tunes and Mods...
Hi guys, am new here...long time Bimmer fan/owner. I have had my '08 335I E90 for a little over a year. I just dyno'd it for the first time yesterday.
here is what I have done to it first: (JB 3, not 2.0 yet, Cold Air Intake, Meth Kit) and I always run 93 octane. I got 342 at the wheels running map 5 which showed alot of chocking at the higher psi's so I switched to map 4 (coz I dont have exhaust or DP's yet) and I get MUCH smoother curve and 356 at the wheels (or 426 HP at the engine) I am certainly looking forward to getting Catless pipes, exhaust and intercooler. If anyone has used ones you wanna sell or know anyone that does please pass my ph number on : 281-701-4228 Sam. P.S: No telelmarketers / B.S Sale Calls. Thanks guys, hope this helps |

JB 3 Map 6, and 7...please read.
The other thing worth mentioning, after I installed the meth kit, I got confirmation from Terry (Burger Tuning) to go for map 7 if no fault codes then go to 8. I like Terry alot, don't get me wrong, but my ingine got jacked up.
At higher PSI on map 6 it started acting really wiered its like something came loose and the car started shaking violently and the service engine lights came on. I would turn the car off then restart, the engine would sound normal but the service engine lights stayed on and after that everytime I would start the car the shacking would happen even though I was no longer running 6 or 7 I was back to 4 (my favorite map) so finally I took it to the dealership, I know the service guy so I never had to take any of the stuff off of it and he knows I have been modding the car, so they had to reprogram the car, replace the injectors and spark plugs i have had JB3 for 10K miles or so...after they fixed it, I just decided to keep it at 4 til I get more work done on the car then maybe switch to higher maps/ Last edited by 335rrr; 04-23-2010 at 10:45 AM.. |

@ AltecBX - First off, great work on this, it no doubt took a lot of time and folks in the tune consideration/comparison phase will be well served by your efforts!
As has been mentioned before on this thread, from a performance perspective, the Dinan Stage 2 tune is probably a better choice as a performance competitor against the JB3 2.0 and PROcede v4. But if price point is the main criteria, the Stage 1 is obviously more closely aligned (still considerably more expensive...) Again, great job!

I'm not even a x35i owner but I sure do appreciate the effort that went into this comparison of tunes/tuners and the comprehensive information conveyed in an easily understood manner. Great job and service to your fellow bimmerheads.

Hey guys thanks for the kind words. I'll be working on an updated chart in the next few weeks especially with the current tuners cranking out new features.

Can you add the Dinan S2 and the GIAC S2 to the chart?
more interested to see those compared, bc S1 dinan is now pointless. |
