Well, I think the post is titled "preventative"

At a 100,000 miles, I'd hope the wheel bearings are good.

That's not a DIY I'd go looking to do unless you absolutely had to. 😉

I purchased my 335i around Los Angeles with 115k miles. We have really bad highways around here so the entire suspension was pretty much shot. Just thought I'd throw it out there since everyone's mentioned all the important stuff already.

Thanks Boland 01, just ordered the fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator from ECS tuning. One less item to worry about failing.

mweisdorfer, the rear wheel bearings where replaced in 2017(appx 95k miles). Those darn things are a PITA, you almost have to remove the entire rear suspension components & drive axles to get to them. If they go out again, I'm paying someone to do it.

Hmm. I'm on the original wheel bearings on both axels and we have some of the worst roads in the entire US here in Michigan. 164,000 miles and going strong.

Why isn't anyone mentioning a water pump?

That thing will straight get you stranded when they fail.

Water pumps will fail around 75,000 miles on the average. The very best thing to do is buy a pump & thermostat from FCP Euro (you get a lifetime warranty)when they go on sale like 4th of July, Labor Day or Black Friday and let it sit on your shelf vs theirs. When you get 75,000 miles in, change it proactively.

You might get 100,000 miles out of one, but you'd be in the top 5% of all n54/55 owners.

I'm gonna wrap my next one in DEI gold heat reflecting tape before I install it. Consider that it's located kitty corner from the front turbo, no wonder it goes bad so often.😉

Water pumps go bad on every bmw even the naturally aspirated ones. Probably more for the n54 because of all the heat.

Mine lasted 70k miles
