Here we go again. The fact that this kid has SERIOUS mental issues was ignored. He eventually did what EVERYONE predicted he might do and immediately we blame guns.

That's a bold statement there. How exactly did "liberal anti-gun laws" cause this school shooting?

Exactly. The gun was simply the selected tool. The root of the issue is our piss-poor response to mental health in this country.

I have no problem with the right to bear arms. But no one needs an AR.

Itís a freedom tax. Done.

No appetite for gun control changes.
No appetite for publicly funded health care, not universal, just more funds to assist the mentally ill.
No appetite to change lobbying laws.
No appetite for change in general.

So fuck it. Shootings will continue. People will grieve. Itís just a tax on the US population to keep the status quo.

Itís not even worth arguing about.

I don't blame the guns. I blame their ridiculously easy availability.

I get the Second Amendment. At least I think I do. It's there so that if, bob forbid, the military ever gets uppity, the citizens will still have a voice. And oh yeah it might be nice to toss a militia together every now and then in case some largish group decides to stop paying their taxes.

What it's not is carte blanche for gunmakers to sow FUD and rake $. Which is what it's been turned into.

I was watching the news today. Half the cops walking around were carrying ar15ís. They must be of some use if all the cops have them, right?

Difference is that the civilian version is not fully automatic.

Yes, precisely.

There is a compelling argument to be made that, based on statistics which suggest an increasing number of home invasions involve multiple (2-3) armed intruders, defending your home with such a rifle is advantageous over a handgun. The theory is, with a handgun, you'll likely get one intruder, you may get a second but that third one is going to get you. Whereas with a rifle such as an AR-15, your likelihood of thwarting multiple assailants is significantly increased.

Everything has changed....but the Constitution hasnít. As long as America has guns accessible to almost everyone, including criminals crazies and felons this will continue. Soft targets, with public access to large amounts of people will continue to be the optimum selection to inflict mass damage.

So what can we/you do? Protect yourself and your family and carry! Legally, where permissible. Go to a class, get your concealed carry permit. Be prepared and have a plan! This can happen anywhere these days. Donít be a victim!

Perhaps the swat have select fire. The regular cops likely don’t. But apparently there is a practical use for ar’s, select fire or not.

A shotgun with buck shot would also do. Large target radius, and you donít have to be a perfect shot. You are more likely to take out multiple threats with the large blast radius. Plus that unmistakable sound of racking the shotgun usually sends ppl running!

If I wake up in the middle of the night to three armed gunmen in my bedroom, no AR is going to save me.

But fair enough. I see your point.

You do realize an AR is no different than any other semiautomatic hunting rifle. Do you want to ban all hunting rifles?
