Man I should have just gotten a car with ZPP
So I installed the mirror from the Premium Package in the 2008 E90 in my 2006 E90 which was easy enough and only cost me $120 for everything. Now I wan't Bluetooth and BMW Assist. Anyone around here done the TCU mod to get Bluetooth yet?
I talked to the parts guy at Circle BMW and he said their service department has done the retrofit and they know how to solve the Voice Assist in German issue... but I'm still wondering if installing the TCU, microphone, antenna, etc. is worth my time or not. The SIB says the install takes like 5 hours! If that's true then DIY will save me over $600 in labor alone. I'll still have to pay ~$200 for coding.. god I hate the MOST bus! Anyway.. like I said before.. has anyone from this area actually done this retrofit before? |

You can subscribe. The dealer has to code the options and register the unit with BMW Assist. It will certainly work... just wondering if the cost is worth it. I just really don't want to have another piece of equipment sitting on my dash... I also want to use the buttons that they placed on my steering wheel and radio to tease and taunt me for not getting a car with Premium! Damn you Germans! Ultimate crack dealers... they get you on the comeback! My next BMW will have EVERYTHING!!!!!

IMHO, not worth the time and cost retrofit BMW Assist and BT. You can always get one of those BT ear thingies, or just resist the urge to have a phone conversation while driving :-)
My '06 came with one year of BMW Assist, and was never used. BT on the other hand is a nice feature, but too much PITA to retro fit. |

interesting they added 4 yrs of assist in later models. I used it once during the first year to request service and did not receive a response. I like the navigation but it is not essential. More than anything I like the adjustments you can make onscreen as well as reviewing service projections. My pet peeve is that there is no dipstick other than the one sitting behind the wheel!

Nope, after I put this multi disc unit in the trunk, there was no room for any other mods.....

Anyway.. the mirror gets me Homelink, Auto-Dim, and a compass. It wasn't until I removed my old mirror that I realized the stupid clown nose twisted to tilt the mirror!!!! I was getting frustrated by adjusting my mirror all the time! Anyway.. I like the Homelink.. it was worth the price for me. |
