E90 Fan Speed

Morning All,

Decided to get my car back up together after a recent idrive failure I'm going to spend some time and money sorting other issues, one of which is an issue with the fan speed.

Fans work fine on settings 1-3, anything above setting 3 the fans seem to fluctuate in speed (longer periods of similar to speed 3 and maybe short coughs of high).

Any fan speed after 3 they all act the same. The blowers for the windscreen work great though so I assume they aren't connected to the cabin fans?

Where would I start with this issue? Would it be a blower motor issue?

Any help is appreciated,
Brendon

Might be related to the hedgehogs resistor that controls the motor, seems to be the main problem with cars when their motor starts operating at the wrong speeds. Quite a cheap easy fix.

Interesting! Would I just need to look at a blower motor resistor? Thanks

Yeah that's the part. May not be this but it's quite common to see incorrect fan speeds when they do go bad. Cheaper changing this than the motor.

Thanks for the advice!

Got a new resistor from my brother who works at a car parts place, cost me £50.30 which I didn't think was too bad. Suggested retail price was £123.80 probably wouldn't have wanted to pay that price!

After a short test now it's all fitted it seems the fans are working as they should now, need to give it a longer drive to test it properly but pretty happy initially!

Much appreciated

No worries that's what forums are for, we don't always get it right, but it's great when we do and someone manages to fix the problem themselves saving a buck or two along the way!
