The 330i has the exhaust flap. I disconnected it a while ago (aka "golf tee" mod) and it sounds nice and deep at low revs.
I wanted more noise though so recently fitted a custom sports back box and 3" tailpipes. After reading this thread I'm thinking of getting the noxem and then doing a secondary cat delete. At the moment my exhaust only has a very slight burble so I'm hoping the nox cat delete creates louder burble/crackle. |

Just a quick update, had a few days off over chrimbo so managed to get the NoxEm fitted. Jacked the car up at one side, axle stands under, blowtorch, 22mm spanner, lump hammer, and some fiddlyness. Then spent ages messing about trying to get DIS (v57, VMware 11, EDIBAS v6.4.7) working on a borrowed windows 10 laptop (after trawling lots of forums - anyone gets stuck, I’ll help if I can).
Anyways, finally managed to get the 'replacement' Nox cat and NOx Sensor coded in DIS with the help of leew88 (much appreciated!). Just need to give it a few runs for new adaptations. |

Nice one! I'm going to take a stab at this at the weekend, if it arrives in time. Was hoping once removed the sensor would be a easy swap..fiddlyness has dashed this hope :| Really don't fancy trying to get DIS setup as well!

Finally got around to replacing the sensor today, was very tight under the car! Couldn't get the hight jacking from diff to get higher up on stands. Getting the reinforcement plate off was a nightmare, 2 of the screws were properly seized but got there in the end just about, was worried might round off the head when hammering the wrench!
Once the plate was off wasn't so bad, apart from the space..what a place to put the control module ffs! 2 inch from prop shaft, nice one! Was very happy once I had threaded that farside nut, bit concerned should of tightened some more now.. oh well! Thankfully DIS setup from disc seemed to have worked out of the box so to speak so was happy with that! Did the replacement stuff and have reset adaptations as also replaced injector other week, so was holding off to get it all done. Quick check in inpa showed lambda was going up to 3 so deffo running stratified will see what mpg is like once it settled..smooth running for now |

Glad you got it sorted.
My MPG has importuned a little, but not as much as I'd hoped. Currently 22mpg, up from 17mpg average mainly round town 6.5 mile journey to work and back. I've not tried checking Lambda using INPA, but I have used the DashCommand app on my phone. The Lambda values don't seem to go above 2. I'm thinking either I haven't done the procedure properly in DIS or DashCommand can't report a Lambda above 2? However the 30EA error code no longer returns since doing what ever I did in DIS, whereas it did after only fitting the NOxEm. I did notice that the engine takes a while to get up to 80-90degC. It only seems to get to around 70degC on my 6.5 mile journey to work everyday. Not sure if this is normal or not given that it doesn't have a temp gauge. Other possibility is a very slightly binding rear brake which I seem to have sorted yesterday. Was squealing slightly while driving, but I think there was barely any resistance. |

Thanks, just hoping it stays alright for a bit! I haven't tried dash command, will give it a go. From what I have read the for normal operation of nox sensor the engine temp has to be > 90 degrees and the exhaust temp 220. Whether this applies to the NoxEm I'm not sure. My car also takes a long time to get up to operating temperature, at least 15 minutes. I'll check next time from cold how long before I am running in stratified mode.
Edit: Tried the app, only goes up to 2 for me as well so seems like app issue. Thinking about it even 2 would be stratified I believe. Last edited by sbains84; 01-15-2018 at 03:26 PM.. |

Well that didn't very last long! Noticed mpg had dropped again, checked faults which showed 30D6 - Nox sensor plausibility. I had reset adaptations and carried out a cat replacement procedure. Going to email bimmerprofs to see what the issue could be, at a guess going by "plausibility", maybe the reading under certain condition is questionable? I cleared the code and it hasn't come back yet although only had 1 driving session. Will report back when I have a response.

Just to update this, I've had the NOxEm installed for about a month now. After doing the proper NOx Sensor and NOx cat replacement procedure in DIS, I can report that there have been no errors recorded since. The average MPG has increased a bit. I was getting low teens, I'm now getting low to mid 20s. I can't be sure that this is due to the NOxEm or my driving and/or mix of motorway/town driving.
This still doesn't seem to be getting near to what I was getting when I first bought the car (used) a few years ago which was around 30MPG. I'm still wondering if the engine is getting up to temperature or not. I do remember replacing the temperature sensor with a non OE one in an attempt to fix something else that turned out to be unrelated and I wonder if this is causing an issue. Any thoughts on this appreciated. |

Carried out replacement again and all seems fine, no more codes thrown. I do remember not paying much attention to switching to Terminal 15 and Terminal R ..probably related to that.
Mine runs stratified once engine temp goes above 60c which takes about 10-15 mins for me. Probably worth logging to see whats going on. I found an app that is pretty good (lots of data to log all ECU specific) but not very user friendly called Deep OBD for BMW and VAG. |
