What's Different with a Winter Wheel

I just picked up a square set of 18" 640M wheels and Continental winter tires off CL and put them on my 08 E92. Setup came from a F80 body M3 sedan (2015-2019). They were only used for 1 month, so they're in great shape with lots of tread life.

When I was researching the square wheel part number 36102284905, I found the spec said "M4 Winter Wheel" and under "Notes" is says "use only for Winter Tires"

What's different about this wheel that it would say for winter tires only?

Here's the spec I found on Bimmertips.com :

Style Number: Style 640M
Standard on: M4 winter wheel
Wheel Name: V-Spoke
OEM BMW Part Number, Front: 36102284905
OEM BMW Part Number, Rear: 36102284906
Front Offset: ET+27
Rear Offset: ET+29
Bolt Pattern: 5 x 120
Factory Setup, Front: 18 x 8.5
Factory Setup, Rear: 18 x 9.0
Factory Tire Size, Front: 255/40/18
Factory Tire Size, Rear: 255/40/18
Wheel Weight, Front: 27.56 lbs (12.5 kg)
Wheel Weight, Rear: 28.66 lbs (13.0 kg)
NOTES: USED ONLY FOR WINTER TIRES!!!

That is just to say from the factory, they came with winter tires for the wheel/tire package. You can put summer/performance tires on them if you prefer. Many people have done so on these forums.

Note says "used" for winter tires--ie they came from the factory with winter tires; instructions for factory technicians. You can mount any tires you want on them.

thanks guys for all the responses. Looks like the spec shouldn't call them Winter Wheels and also not say "use only for winter tires" since it's proven you can run them with other tires without issue

I like em though (although they do look small compared to the 220 19's I just took off)
