touch up paint for the wheels?

im wondering if anyone knows the code for the paint for the wheels, I have a few boogers I would like to touch up does BLW offer a factory bottle?

Got bad news for you--it's nearly impossible to figure out. I tried googling, the dealer, paint shops, auto body shops. Best you can do is get a near match with some brands like Einzett or Wurth. One of these days I am going to try one--People seem to have mixed results. I am planning on working on mine in the next few weeks..hopefully others can chime in on if they used anything recently.

Bavauto.com sells a repair kit for BMW silver wheels. Part#: AW-KIT.

It includes, putty, sandpaper, silver paint, clear coat and more. I've been thinking about buying it but I'd rather brush the paint on than spray it even though the results won't be quite as good.

Yeah..I'm with you..I would,prefer to brush it on as well..
I was thinking of getting a can..spraying some out in a small container and use a fine brush. I have touch up for the paint and it includes clear with a brush..so that would be easy. Don't know if this will work but it will look better than rashes.

There are a few different of silver shades for BMW wheels, and you have to figure out which one it is. As mentioned Bavauto and ECS have the touch-up paint. Now, if your wheels are the common German silver alloy paint, then this would be an easy fix. You will have to source the Wurth "German Alloy Silver Wheel paint", from on-line vendors - google it and you will find it, and the cost is very palatable. you can also piggy-back the paint with the same Wurth clear coat can. It is an exact match for the "regular" silver alloy wheels (BMW, MB, VW, Audi)
Autogeek has them in the US as an example

thanks guys, I was google search told me that someone thinks ford silver frost is a good close match, I just got home from autozone and spent $15 on a bottle of it. ill give it a whirl this weekend

Hello, probably a bit late with this but if the US dealer network is similar to the UK ones then they should have or have access to a wheel paint code guide / list which was supplied (here in Europe anyway) to the dealers as a pdf file as BMW were sick of dealers asking for a paint code.

The paint is touch up only I think with no spray cans and in the UK about £25 a bottle.

I'd be tempted to ask another dealer.

That's ridiculous... it's quite easy to figure out.

As a matter of fact, there was a thread on here at some point that said the exact color of the silver paint that they used on OEM wheels.

Ok. So be a hero and tell us. I called the dealer and went to the dealer and they told me they do not carry paint for wheels. They said they carry many different paint codes but do not have a list for wheels. They said for wheels they have an outside guy who deals with that and for that matter when he does the wheel work does it in "secret" so no one knows what paint they use. I spent a lot of time on this, on forums and called two different paint stores as well. If you can find the exact code, you could be a hero.

so I did the touch up and took pics, it is a hastle to go through to post them and they really do not show justice... but I will say that the ford silver frost is a pretty dead nuts match. the only thing that makes it stick out a tad is the metallic. but honestly I don't think there is a much closer match to my style 230's

No sorry..you can have a bronze star...I'll give you an appreciate for the effort. Still not exact color code--that I say is just not available...which is goddamm idiotic considering this day and age, you would think whatever they paint those things with in Germany or wherever could be bottled up and sold for 30$.

Oh man...after as much work you put into the wheels, posting pics has to be a breeze. Your wheels are a different style than mine, but I think most non-shadowline wheels are the same color. Did you spray it on or use some kind of brush method?

Just for reference then. The majority of BMW oe wheels for the e9#'s are listed by BMW UK as " reflex silver " (a44) and avail as touch up or spray can.

51.91.0.398.832 (reflex touch up)
51.91.2.160.218 (spray can)

The style 216 18" wheel is listed in two shades, either reflex or as "decor silver" (a55) so that one is a bit of a toss up.

The 193's and 194's are usually a high metallic finish compared to the usual finish and these are listed as "decor silver" (a55) which as a touch up are 51.91.0.395.248.

These are European numbers and specs so don't know if US stuff is the same but I'd have thought so.

You are most likely looking for the following:

BMW Paint Code: 144
Paint Name: Wheel Silver Met.
Part # 51 91 0 427 864

This is the exact color match to a BMW OE style 189 wheel for a 2008 335i and likely is the same and other wheel styles like the 162', 197's. The 193's may be different. I don't think you noted the style wheel you are working with - knowing that may help narrow down and/or confirm he correct paint.
