I've got this ticking coming from what seems to be closer to the back of the engine. The noise happens at idle, cold start, and normal temps. I've go no code or lights. It gets faster the more I accelerate or rev. Not super noticeable at higher speeds probably just drowned by the exhaust or engine noise. Car has full bolts on sand no tunes yet as I just purchased it two weeks ago. Car was running MHD stage 1 before it was detuned to sell.

Sounds like a minor rod knock @0:35 seconds into the video. The sound is increasing with the rpm even though it's hard to diagnose over the internet. Remove your oil filter and check for metal shavings inside filter or obvious contaminated oil shavings inside the oil filter housing. You can also do a compression test after.

It's probably this
https://www.e90post.com/forums/showt...2F%2FMotivated https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1718474 Here's a DIY to replace a failed rocker and/or lifter https://www.e90post.com/forums/showt...hlight=lifters Mine was making the exact same sound, its the sound of the cam hitting the failed lifter. Everyone else who had this failure, it's always been on the exhaust side. If it hasn't already, it will start setting off the engine knock codes, too, because it confuses the sound with the gas pre-detonation knock Quote doable by a shade tree mechanic -- after all, I did it |

If you have a mechanic's stethoscope (cheap from Harbor Freight) you can take off the engine cover and you can hear if the failure is in the top end (I hope to God it's not a rod knock) and where the failed rocker is. I knew mine was between 3 and 4 before I took anything apart, sure enough, it was a failed #4 rocker.
I could hear the knock inside the house with the car parked outside and the door closed. See the difference??? |
