i mentioned this to my shop today and they said it depends on how much resistance is in the resistors. he said the finicky bmw system may find too much resistance and pop a code or not enough. they said u need just the right resistors, haha.. anyone know?
If you turn on your turn signal three times it will get rid of the code ... but only until the next time you start your car. You have to do it each time you start your car. I believe it also works if you turn on your four way flashers real quick as well.

Yeah, I hit the flashers for 3 cycles & I'm off for a ride.

If that's the case then your wiring isn't right. I did that last year when I first installed them and found that a connector wasn't crimped all the way.

I've exact same problem, I think the problem could be the LED's do not provide enough resistance and this causes a bulb out warning.Maybe this could this be fixed by adding some capacitors e.t.c ?

They definitely need to change their writeup/description on their site to reflect that this is an ongoing problem that thye are well aware of and that it effects ALL build dates.

Could you attach a small bulb on the inside that should provide the resistance car is looking for and get rid of the error ? so ordinary bulb inside and LED outside ?

you need special resistor's to throw off any error codes

The dealer on the other hand ........... if my car ever happens to throw codes and needs to make a trip to the dealer then I'll have to uninstall the LEDs just to prevent headaches arising from the bulb-out warning. BavTech reader isn't going to be effective for this since the code is thrown with every restart of the car.
what resistance resistors did you use, i have exactly the same problem but apparently the resistors are 10 watt and 10 ohm when i think they should be 50

You may be right.

I ended up taking them out before trying one of the stronger resistors. JLevi had mentioned they had tried other resistors, but still experienced the same problem.

Who knows ........

The sidemarkers don't require resistors so those are a PnP replacement.

Question servo

Hi there,
I've just been reading of the difficulty people are having with error codes after installing LEDs to replace bulbs in various positions on the car. The ballast resistors supplied with these kits are to fool the ECU into thinking that the bulb is still in ciruit, as the LEDs take a lot less current than a conventional bulb. It's possible that a bulbs resistance changes when the filament gets hot, and that the ECU expects this. Just a thought, but has anybody tried leaving the ballast resistor out and just using a bulb of the correct type for the ballast. It could be tucked away out of sight somewhere, making sure that it wasn't near anything where heat was an issue, as bulbs can get hot!

You need to use an app like Carly or Bimmergeeks to tell the FRM module not to look for low or no voltage on the lights.
