How is this calculated? Is the ecu comparing crank and cam timing to come up with an offset?
If so we still can use it to see what the numbers do with time.

The only other chain issue I've heard of is the tensioner wearing out on some engines. In that case I think we wouldn't even see a stretch until it fully fails?

Thanks for these instructions, really helpful and detailed!

I had to replace my timing chain, as one link was already broken on one side, this tool might have made the diagnosis a lot easier. I didn't have the right pin to lock the crankshaft and my camshaft tool had a lot of play, so I wanted to use this method to check my timing

Only problem I have is that I got the M57 engine using the D60M57A0.prg file and I can't find any value related to the crankshaft position or offset. Is it possible to read out this value somehow? I also have Inpa and Ista installed if that helps

Subscribed to a thread where the last post was 2.5 years ago? Seems worthwhile...

You know you can add subscriptions without posting, right?

Well, I just found this thread again by the notifications. I had totally forgotten about it. Since three years and 20kmiles have passed on the cars, I shall measure the values again and see if they have increased. Maybe the other members can do the same?

Updated after 15k miles, about 3 years of driving. Average of 6 starts resulted with no change. I use 0w40 Pennzoil euro or m1 with a bottle of lubro moly mos2 additive every year, approx 5k miles.

Update after 30k miles

My offset angle went down considerably after 30k miles (from 0.618 @ 154k to 0.391 @ 186k). Thanks to robnitro for updating the sheet with a second data point.
Can we get more members sunny_j , Owen81 , Batman2001 to post updates?
