No IBS Plug?
Sorry if this has been asked a million times.. I did search and didn't see anything..
Just brought a E90 325i about a week ago and the night i got it.. Check engine light came on (Right as i was proudly showing the wife the car i just spent $6k on mind you). The following day the starter motor died. Replaced starter and now she runs again.. Checking over the voltages i noticed they get pretty high... 15.05-17V (while running) so i changed the Alternator out (I have a spare 330i that i can pull parts off as needed because its a repairable write off.. I wasn't aware of this at the time of buying but that's another story of dumb buying decisions for another day) But the voltages still seemed pretty high.. So i thought maybe the IBS is not working.. Turns out its not just not plugged in.. There is no plug at all.. The negative wire has 2 wires coming off it (The actual negative cable, and another that goes to some relay for these dumb tinted tail lights i wanna pull out asap).. Only plug on the positive end is that transport plug everyone freaks out about.. No blue plug.. Was this likely factory? did someone go through the effort of pulling the entire IBS wiring out? and if so why? when you can just unplug it if you dont want it.. Halp? |

IBS plug BSD cable
Squarish aluminum piece on the negative terminal is the IBS Two cables come out one goes to the battery distribution block for power. The other is the plug with the blue connector notice it has three pin holes. The end that plugs into is on the main cable wrapped up in the protecting tape. https://bimmerscan.com/bmw-intellige...ry-sensor-ibs/ How would we know if someone removed it. yep none of that is there. I have it all in the 330i but on the new car its just a regular negative terminal..no black or aluminium box whatsoever.
Same story with that thick red cable that runs up the rear wheel well.. just the red wire and some added wiring for tail lights.. The IBS comes standard in all BMW's right? If i wanted to swap the wiring over from the other car how far deep does it go? I can see it runs up to the backseat but i haven't removed back seat to trace it because if it runs all the way to the front i'll need more time to pull everything out. |
