BoondogUK Build Thread: Monaco Blue E90

So having lurked in here for a couple of years I kinda have threads scattered about the place so I though I would follow suit and do the 'Build Thread'

So this is how I bought it... a bog standard SE. It was in a nice and neat condition, if somewhat boring. It came with Msport Steering wheel & gear knob combo, and rear tints

First mod was to get a set of 220M replicas and throw them on.

Next on the hit list was the chrome kidneys... I did them in Plasti dip origianlly, but the matt finish never really worked for me... so I upgraded to the OEM performance kidneys.

I added the obligitory bc.moto rear m3 lip spoiler next.

Then I decided I needed to change out the front end... I was going to to the Msport front, but then found the m3 replica and thought I would have a go at that.... full details are here

then it was done and a chance to get the camera out!

Now it wasn't long until I was unhappy with the standard pre-lci halogens, so it was time to change over to the LCI's with LEDs

I thought I would be done here, but work changed and I found myself doing a few more miles and really the sound system would not cut it!

So I bought some DLS R4's for the doors, Gladen 8" under seats and an Alpine PDX 4.100 to run them. Install guff is here

Needless to say this made a huge difference to the sound and those Gladen woofers play hard!

I had always had a very neat and tidy interior, but it was... well... a bit beige!

so I changed it over to Matt Black... the detail of which can be found here

I am still very happy every time I get in the car at how big a difference this has made to the seating position!

I then had the misfortune of having to fork out for a new sump and breather as the last one had cracked

So to reward myself I bought a set of LED Darklines. I love these and have really sorted out the back of the car and match the upgrades at the front.

So this is where I am upto! I could use getting the camera out and going for a drive for my next photoshoot.

What next? Well...
- I am looking into putting an MS8 into the sound system to have a bit more configuration options.
- I am tempted to put an Msport rear on the car as it does need something to keep it inline with the work up front.
- I have been toying with a remap, but I don't want to stress the turbo to much as I am still on the original.
- I'd love to change up the alloys again... as the polished face on these has some pretty bad lacquer peel in places. I love the look of the Ispiri ISR5's on an e90... but that may be down the line a bit more...

You've made some really nice changes. M Sport rear would really set it off.
Love the colour combo with Monaco Blue and the light interior.

The beige does work well, especially with the black changes

None mate, little bit of work and adjustment but no cutting or major adjustments

Yeah, I have watched a couple pop up in the classifieds that have tempted me. When I do the rear a twin pipe 330 look is favourite right now...

Excellent work so far

Positive feedback:
Good audio stuff
Keeping the interior mint

Things to improve
-Rear into M sports
-I wish you had gone for OEM black lines. LEDs on those lights, sorry pal.
-Change the tail pipe to something better. It will not suit the M sports back bumper.
-MS-8 is excellent kit.

Good luck.

Each to there own with the darklines. I like the LEDs... Maybe not pure OEM, but I think they suit the car.
Spot on with the rear... It will have to be a complete redo... The one on at the moment was there when I bought it. Better than the downturned one, but does need improvement.

MS8 is probably a luxury at the moment, so may be after the rear end

Not anything I have done. It looks lower than a few I have seen... But stock as far as I know. Only thing is rear 20mm spacers, which are a touch to big...

You are right. It looks dropped.

But whatever it is, it looks spot on!

Right, time for a small update/teaser on my progress...

I changed up all my disks and pads earlier in the month and coincidentally a rear left speed sensor issue reared its ugly head. I had the back wheels off and on that many times looking into what it was but I managed to sort this out myself which bought a nice smile to my ugly mug.

While I was there I gave everything a clean and degrease and I was pleasantly surprised to find these:

As per several comments earlier in the thread, I knew it was lower than most others but not due to anything I had done. It appears the previous owner had done the work for me... bonus! The car has a set of the Eibach pro kit all round Happy days!

So onwards with my planned mods it was...

I bought a 330d backbox off the forum and this is just taunting me to get fitted...

I also had the itch for an msport rear skin and diffuser. Now they never did a Monaco Blue e90 msport, so what ever skin I bought would need a respray. I have finally purchased one at the right price with only a couple of scuff and no broken lugs so it won't need much prep work. It should be with me tomorrow and then it will be about when I can get it off to the bodyshop for a respray and fit.

I had been toying with fitting the exhaust before fitting the msport bumper but I want to ensure that I get the tips extending perfectly. The tip that was on my car when I bought it sticks out to far IMO and really bugs me...
so I am thinking I will get it all done together just to be sure!

However it may have to wait another week or 2 as I am off to Ocktoberfest next weekend

So the last bit for this mini update is that I have purchased a new cable from here
For quite some time I have wanted to code my upgraded sound stage to hifi, and I like a bit of a challenge so time to learn how to code!

Well thats it for now... I'll get the pics up when everything is done!

I bought them from an old forum sponsor 1sh@Crystalwhite

I think they were 20w CREE which, unless things have changed, was the brightest you could go on e90 LCI halogens.
