Nice car. But you don't need to lift the centre console- I keep my player in the driver's cup holder (the cable reaches all the way and is thin enough to fit through with the lid closed. Yes, it's your money but IMHO it's a rip off and sometimes we need to vote with our hip pockets.

The best BMW dealership i've been to was BMW Doncaster down in Melb's they were head and shoulders above the rest, and believe me i've set foot in at least half a dozen dealerships in Melb & Syd and there is nothing worse car salesmen who either don't take you seriously or act like they're someone special, it's like god i'm the one who is here to buy one of these cars, your supposed to be kissing my ass!

Lol, same here i took my car into one of the dealers that acted like a snob and pointed out my car and told him i was considering upgrading and wanted to test drive a 335i for a day... Gave it a good old fashioned flogging, man that car is quick... it just doesn't make my heart flutter when i see it, so i'm sticking with my baby until i can get the e93 m3 so probably early 2009 by the looks of things.

My 'BORRIS' had his first oil change over the weekend. I used the recommended Castrol oil and used 5litres all up. Picked up the oil filter from BMW and my bf changed the oil for me in 10mins. All you needed is a jack to jack car up, undo flap/ cover under car, unbolt, we drained about 4-4.5litres (thats not much eh?) from the car, and took out old filter from the engine bay, cleaned/ changed it over with new rings and voila! all done. Used up 5 litres of oil and oil light was spot on from the instrument cluster.

Sorry, but I paid $90 all up for my oil, $20 for my oil filter from BMW and oil change costed me a kiss and a cuddle and that was all! Sorry, but i wasnt keen on dropping my car off for an ENTIRE DAY at Doncaster for them to charge me $280++ to do the same thing!

Yeah, I dont have the book stamped but I'm keeping all my receipts from my purchases if the next buyer of my car is going to get picky! But this is only for an oil change, I will still take my car every now and then for a BMW 'service' so they 'call it'. Plus, whatever genuine parts I buy from BMW, they log in my car's history anyhow.

The problem with doing the oil changes yourself is it's fine if you want to do them every 8-10k which is between service intervals. But if your reaching the service interval and not getting it done at BMW or at the minimum a specialist workshop prospective buyers are going to be wary.

I just don't see the logic in spending potentially upwards of $100k on a car and yet worrying about the $170 difference, in the long run the hit you'll take in depreciation for not having a full service car will be much more than the extra BMW will charge you do to the servicing.

I actually remember reading somewhere that not changing the oil that often is actually beneficial to the engine. Which could be why BMW actually require service intervals every 25,000kms.

Lea, I notice that you got your boyfriend to do it for you- I personally couldn't be stuffed to change my or my girlfriend's car's oil, I have better things to do with my time. But more importantly, as BMW//MPOWER says, more frequent oil changes have no real benefit in today's modern engines and the other things done during the oil service are often just as important.

PS how did you dispose of the oil? It's quite toxic and can't just be poured down the drain.

hahah! Quite true! But it helps when you have a clever boyfriend that absolutely loves cars and built one of the first twin turbo VT in Australia that has been advertised in Street Commodores/ won AutoSalon and Show Off competitiions! My garage is a make-shift auto shop! So everything 'auto' is easily done!

Besides, he loves me

I see your point, but my car isnt due for its first 'official' oil change for yet another 12,000kms! Just seems like a looooooooooooooooong time to go and Ive had the car for 8months now and felt like doing an interval oil change. Everyone has their opnions on how regularly we should change the oil. Yes, new engines & oil blends are built efficiently nowadays that we can save $ on regular oil changes but I like to 'detox' my car every now and then and not always wait for the computer to tell me what I should do and when to do it.

Hey, $100 is a $100, with that, I just took my boyfriend out for a lovely dinner and movie!
