Best intake out for E90?
So it seems like the best intake, based on theory, efficiency, effective end result/most reasonable boost is...
GruppeM?? This is what I gather from the threads... please any feedback highly appreciated. |

well....first of all.....define reasonable.....
really depends what 1000 dollars is worth in your life and how you see in spending money..... if your rich or you don't really care much about money, then go with the GruppeM....cuz it's a well built intake..... on the other hand..... if you're not as wealthy or you treasure each penny you earn, then go with a simota or AFE |

Hi d3l0n,
I got the Gruppe-M replica from ebay and I can say that it's really excellent. I'm not having any problems with it whatsoever I got it from eBay for $350 (plus $90 shipping), but shoot him an offer for $300 and see if he bites I don't have the original, but there are a e90post member who got both and he said that they are identical. So I don't see how you won't get the same gains as with the original I forgot the member's name, but you can go through this thread: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ghlight=gruppe |

and that since it's Authentic, there's more support when something happens to it....and that people trust it to not HARM your car..... since no 1 here can prove that the replica GruppeM is 100% safe... |

This past summer, I had taken my 330i to Technik to have it dyno tested. In stock form, 3 pulls on Style 162 wheels yield a max wHP of around 211.93 wHP, and 193.20 lbs-ft of torque. Then I installed the larger diameter Work VS-XX wheels (19x10), and dyno tested the car again on a separate day. This time, max wHP was 210.37 with 192.75 lbs-ft of torque. We kept the 330i strapped into the dyno, and I swapped out the stock airbox with the GruppeM intake. About half an hour later, we re-dyno'd the car. It showed 215.87 wHP and 200.20 ft-lbs torque. As far as I am concerned, no one can really comment on any other intake, save perhaps RichP (?), unless they have actually done any pre- and post- dynos at the wheel under controlled circumstances. It's also important to realize that dyno testing in the environment of a shop may not accurately reflect what actually happens on the street with the hood down, wind velocity changes, etc. I don't have the GruppeM replica, but from what I can tell in the pictures, the difference may be in the CF pattern, the leading edge of the intake (behind the radiator) as it very closely follows the contours of the engine compartment, and of course, the officially stamped and numbered GruppeM emblem. Is this worth a few extra hundreds? Only the buyer can answer that question. Personally, I think we all are a little eccentric when it comes to cars; otherwise, we wouldn't be posting in here. I do feel we are a funny bunch when it comes to performance mods though. The addition of aftermarket intakes and exhausts on normally aspirated cars will not provide our vehicles with tremendous performance gains. Keep in mind though that we are willing to spend thousands of dollars on wheels and body mods that do little for performance. Yet when it comes to aftermarket performance items, people would rather spend money on items that "look nice," than on things that perform well. So, what is better? We don't have all the objective data. If we did, then you would have to consider your priorities. Mine are: Performance > Looks > Cost What I mostly see in this forum is: Cost > Looks > Performance |
