I said so replace the sensor, they said it works fine it has 7 quarts. I said good but I just added a quart of oil and it said it was full so it doesn't work. They said sorry sir but we can't do it under warranty we have no proof that it is broken. So I went home ordered a new sensor and just put it in myself. I hate BMW electronics they suck and they always have.
My oil level has actually gone up from ~.2qt low after the oil change to now reading completely full. So either my car made oil in the last 500 miles or the sensor's bad.

How hard was the DIY? ... got any links to a DIY?
How's the new sensor working?
I've got the cost at ~$170 for the sensor; does that sound correct?

Thanks in advance.

Here's a good link for the DIY. Very useful info here.

All cars that I have owned, including one BMW from late 80s, suffered from higher oil consumption at high mileages (usually >130K or so). Do current generation of BMWs also suffer from oil consumption as the engine ages?

Hard to tell because consumption depends on break-in as well as how the car is being driven.

That was an oil change DIY. I've changed the oil and it's easy. We were discussing changing the oil sensor unit. I'm sure it's more complex than changing the oil.
