BMW 335d noise when engine warm

Hello everyone,

I am writing to you to tell you about a problem I am having on my 2011 BMW 335D 286hp.

The car has 205,000 km, when the engine is warm I hear a slight clicking / clicking noise coming from the front of the engine.

Looks like the noise is coming from the direction of the damper pulley.

The noise is intermittent, it is not present continuously. It lasts about 2 seconds and happens every 3 seconds.

Noise is only present when hot and idling. It disappears when you accelerate a little and attenuate when I activate the A / C air conditioning.

When cold, the car runs perfectly, there is no noise.

Do you have any idea what it can be?

I know it's not easy like that but I would try to post a video soon

Thanks

Harmonic balancer, if original, would be the first guess, and at your mileage is due to be replaced anyway. Other items to check are the pulleys and the belt tensioner.

Hello,

Thank you for your answer. Indeed the damper pulley is still original. Here is my video with the noise. We can hear the noise very well between moments.

0:14 - 0:50
and
1:17 - 1:24

I want to repeat it, I only hear this noise when the engine is hot, when cold there is no noise.

thanks

Kinda hard to pinpoint it. Great camera work though. I would definitely start with the balancer and pulleys. Needs to be done anyway.

Hello everyone,

today I took my fan apart so that I could check the condition of the pulley. Visually, I don't see any problem but watch the video carefully, when I hit the top part of the pulley, I hear a noise while when I hit the bottom, there is no noise. Can you confirm that I have to change the pulley and that my noise is coming from there?

thank you in advance.

You have 205k km. It’s done. Replace it preventively before it leaves you stranded.
