[SIMPLE] what is this part called?
Hey I have the N52k engine. My car has it broken and it is fallen on the engine. And I'm worried when the engine head cover is hot, it will damage it. How do I fix it and what is it called. What does it do? Please fill me up with information. Thank you.

It clips on to the lower air filter housing (P/N 12617607910). About $100 to replace the whole thing. It's not going to melt. There's already plastic on your cylinder head cover which is also covered by a plastic valve cover.
You can fix it for cheap here. Solution is by AZDAVEBROWN halfway down the page. https://www.e90post.com/forums/showt...2#post21523792 |

It will mainly just scratch up the cover as it wiggles. I just replaced mine.
12-52-7-534-161 ~$30 12-52-7-532-268 ~$25 You can reuse the lid usually but those two parts are the lower ones that actually clip in place |

OP, to replace that part, either the tabs on it are broken, or the receiving slots on the cabin air filter tray are broken, or a combination of both. Or it could just be the last person to remove it didn't lock it in place. I just put speednuts on the tabs and drilled holes in the cabin air filter tray and I use screws to secure it.

No one answered ""what does it do?"
It is a cable tray. It's just a decorative plastic housing that covers two power cables from the left side of the engine bay to the right side. One cable is a heavy-gage red cable for the starter motor. I forget where the smaller cable goes. |
