Turbos on the way out?

My 09 35i has started making a lot more turbo noise especially when letting boost build 2/3k rpm and then letting off, can hear audible turbo whistle. Also seems to be slightly flat in the lower rpm range when accelerating. Does this sound like the waste gates are loose allowing boost to escape? TIA!

How many miles are the turbos on? I experienced something similar before my turbos were replaced

Just over 60k, I've identified a small boost leak at the intercooler outlet so will fix this and see if it sorts the problem. I think the turbos will need replacing fairly soon anyway

I would be surprised to see them gone at 60k. It's possible but unlikely,

I had my cores replaced and shafts at pmp on a 72k 09 335i. Was leaking a bit of oil and there was play in the shaft, 1 was worse than the other.

I've just replaced the intercooler outlet pipe and seal, improved quite a lot but still a leak present, going to replace the hot side seal but there was a good amount of oil in the intercooler. Going to look into turbo rebuild soon - did your turbos have any symptoms which made you go for the rebuild?

If you're going for a rebuild you can have my old tubs for free if you like, you could then keep you're 35i on the road during the rebuild.

Not really, i just wanted them done and there very reasonable on price. The wastegates were rattling that was the main reason for visit, and the walnut blast.
