235/45 R17 on 8x17 Rim (330d SE)

Hey guys. Do you think that 4 of non-RFT 235/45 R17's over the standard dimension, non-RFT 225/45 R17's would be a good idea for my 330d SE (8x17 rims)?

My aims are a bit more comfort and a bit better traction over the 225's, considering an Evolve remap being on its way (280-300 bhp / 650-700Nm)

Goodyear AS2's are my choice and the per tyre cost difference is small between the sizes.

Also clearance from the ground will be increased, but will the current arches take the slight upsize without undesired rubbing, or require different (larger) spacers?

It's an SE suspension, hence the arch height is not a concern. Also the wider tyre will protect the rim, and it will look a bit sleekier with more filled arches.

Speedo will become closer to actual speed due to the 4.5 mm larger tyre radius. Clearance from the ground will be 4.5 mm higher, a potential plus for city driving over bumps (London), but hopefully won't affect suspension handling much due to the higher centre of mass. Anyway the tyres would have more lateral grip than the SE suspension can handle and the car is mostly used in motorways than bing thushed in B-roads.

Works for me!

Total wheel diameter would only increase slightly, from 24.97 inches to 25.33 inches, for a difference of 1.4 percent, well within the 2 percent difference allowed by industry standards.

I'm also thinking of ditching my rft's for 235/45/r17 non rft's. I have just fitted eibach pro street at max height and the rft's are too stiff.

That should return some comforts with good grip and quietness.

Any experiences with 235/45/17 non rft's?

Forgot to add, i have a 330i with type 159 17x8 wheels. Will factory BMW rims take non-rft's?? Or are they special rims?

Yes I use 235/45/17 Goodyear F1 on stock 17x8 wheels. There is no problem to put non-runflat tyres on those wheels. 235/45/17 is a better size than the stock 225s in my opinion. More grip and comfort that is well suited to our road conditions in Australia.

Yes, there is nothing special about the BMW factory wheels that would prevent them from accepting non run flat tires.

Yeah I'm also in Australia - Canberra.

The roads vary a lot and frankly, now I have proper suspension (eibach pro-street), I need proper tires. I don't care much for looks but the fidigy RFT are annoying.

The problem is I have about 60% tread left! I doubt I can sell them too.

What tyre do you use for a daily? Need decent grip with low noise. 17" are'nt too expensive I think.

235/45/17 should give me good acceleration and grip with a reasonably comfy ride on the coilovers. That would be a win!

I use the Goodyear Eagle F1 assymetrics on my E90 sedan - That's my daily driver. So far I've done 15,000km on them and they are great. You can get Michelin PS3 235/45/17 at very reasonable prices here locally because they are a very popular size. PS3 are a better choice than Michelin PSS for a daily driver because they are not as prone to aqua-planing (Better safety on the open road). I'd also compare the price to Goodyear Eagle F1 assymetric-2, which is the newer version of the tires I have. Otherwise maybe Kumho or Falkens if you are looking to spend a bit less.
