Smile How-To: Procede v4 PnP harness update (optional)

Hi guys,
Starting next week, we are going to make a small update to the v4 PnP harness. This update physically eliminates the o2 modifier feature that most people no longer use. This is because most people:

1) are running with factory catalytic converters OR
2) are using CANclear to suppress cat codes in their off-road use only race cars

Those racers who are using the o2 modifier feature to suppress cat codes shouldn't do this update. Or, better yet, they should should AND get their DME software updated to someone more recent than circa-2007 so that CANclear works

The advantage of this update it two-fold:

1) It opens up 1 analog input and 1 analog output channel. Which we will use at a later date (not saying for what).

2) It removes the o2 sensor wiring in the harness so that the o2 sensor signal no longer has to go into the Procede, get converted to digital, then recreated into analog, then split into two and then sent to the DME. Even when the o2 modifier is turned off in the user software (o2 modifier=100%), there is some some signal processing which is no longer needed. And when we no longer need to process a signal, we should remove it from the circuit.

Here's How:

Step 1
This can be done with the Procede installed in the car. But for the sake of clarity, we did the work on a table. Locate the Patch harness that has all the fuel control functionality. It is the one with the small black subconnector. If you v4 harness is reasonably new, it will have yellow wires. Look for the pin with the missing wire:

Step 2
Remove the following wires:

There will be two wires that you remove. One will have a single male end. And the other will split off into two female ends. Make sure the wires you remove look like what you see above.

Step 3
Next extract two unused patch wires from another subconnector. Your v4 harness has many patch wires that aren't used. You can tell that it's unused by looking at the factory connector that it mates with. If a pin on the factory wire is empty, the corresponding patch wire in the v4 harness is unused. I in the picture below we removed two unused wires the red patch loom. Although you can take wires from any patch loom. Even in the same yellow patch loom. Just make sure it is unused!

Step 4
Insert new patch wires:

Step 5
Fold up and tape old wires for later use:

In that patch harness, you also have the wideband bias wires which you can see in the pictures. That is not being removed since that is how the Procede adjusts AFR target. Fuel pressure control is actually in another patch.

Yes I need the sim for 02 readiness or I will never pass inspection...Shiv whats the deal for people like myself if I do this update, well first I have to get the software updated which I am reluctant because my car runs like a charm....Can you let me know if this harnass update is going to effect my nitrous system or would it work without it and will be used for something else?? Either way If I do this update how will I get 02 readiness to pass inspection??

Those who must, for whatever reason, have their off-road-only-use race cars achieve readiness every 4 years need only undo this mod when that time comes

lol...NY state requires inspection every year! I will hold off on this update to see what the goodies are going to be in the future and then decide to update my DME software...Shiv can you at least give us some clues to what this input will be for? Well at least your title of thread says OPTIONAL!!! lol I am so happy with the way my car is running right now...scared stiff to get new software...well see

O2 modifier set to 50% works perfectly well in my car and I'm not using the BMS O2-sim at all.

Shiv, will the existing Procede O2 modifier function work after this harness modification?

Shiv, there are a lot of people that will not be able to pass emissions if they do this update. CanClear does not allow OBDII readiness to be set. Many states require OBDII emissions testing every year. Some exhaust systems with high flow cats will also fail due to very specific O2 band that DME is looking for. Built-in adjustable O2 simulator is one of the features that attracted many people to the Procede.

The o2 modifier wires will always be there in case you need it. We are just updating the new harnesses so that those two wires aren't installed. If anyone needs that feature, they only need to plug those two wires in and go.

ok cool, but are you going to use that input for something else in the future we may need? if so what will we do then?

Yep, 50%.

CANclear doens't work with my car, so I won't be doing this update.
I once asked bmw dealer to update my DME, but they refused and told this wasn't necessary.

Shiv would you be able to sell a external o2'modifier or can we use one of those already available for those of us who will want to update the harness in the future to take advantage of the future and still have the old dme programs?

I would suggest you to get the BMS 02 sims but i am pretty sure you would prefer to put a dead mouse in your ECU box over that
