Tinting Ideas, Please!

I have had it with the Texas sun, and have decided to tint my car windows. Initially, I was planning on going with 50% all around (except front windshield).

But after browsing the "Official Tint Thread" here, it seems that the car might look better with 35%. I do not like the dark window effect, which is why I wanted 50%. I want to be able to see inside of my car.... so that some thug doesn't have to break the window to realize there isn't anything worth stealing inside. Can anyone tell me if there is a huge difference between the 35% and 50%?

Also, since I have the autodimming rear view mirror, I am thinking of having my back windshield tinted at 50%, regardless of what I do for the front windows.

I figure this way my autodimming and night visibility won't be affected. However, I've noticed that mixing tints of different VLT % is not a good idea.

What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks!

Do you folks think there may be any issues with visibility at night, or with the autodimming feature?

That would be nice, but Texas requires automotive tints to have a VLT of at least 30%, so that wouldn't work.

I used to live in Texas. I did limo tint on my rear glass and 35% everywhere else. The limo tint made it hard to drive at night. When I moved to md and had to get the tint off, I put 35% back on all glass. It's the legal amount here as well. Best decision in my book.

Does the 35% on the rear windshield make driving anymore difficult at night than during the day?

Thanks!

No, 35% doesn't have much of an effect. The only time I've come close to having a problem is backing up in a completely pitch black parking lot on a dark night. But I just rolled down the window and it was fine.

Definitely worse with the limo tint.

I am on the fence with this as well. I live in Temecula CA so it is very hot here, heat and UV rays is primary and looks secondary

I think it matters what type of tint, manafacturer and their line of tint also.
I was originally thinking 30-35%, but now I am thinking 40%

Good point with auto dimm, thinking the same. It does do a good job

I am leaning towards Ceramic.

If you are tinting your car because of issues with heat use ceramic. If you are doing it just for looks than get carbon film.
