Of course, we need it. For an experienced person who's into tuning, it's the best thing out there. Tune on it's own would have been great if we would not have to deal with a gamut of BMW under engineered emissions components. From my limited research, tune on it's own is $800, for $450 more, you get a beautifully crafted pipe that will work with the tune, make much more power and also make our cars so much more reliable. I'm into tuning, and I am sold.

Edit: I have checked around for the cost of a tune alone and they are from $680/$800/$1200. This is Evolve/Ecotune/Renntech. I could not find any direct reference to 335d tuning from either of Malone or Rocketchip, but see that Malone is $899.

The 5 series tune he has on the Mlone website is the same tune for the 335d, Malone and rocketchip both are awesome diesel tuners, rocketchip I could not find on website but I emailed jeff and has tuned about 10 of these cars this year...

May be Ecotune down pipe/tune combo be just the right mix of goodies for someone like you.
I don't want the smell right now and by removing the exhaust it will be like a school bus, smelly, I can get about 310hp and 5ish tq with stock exhaust and just a ecu flash, I like Maolone tunning just because I have used him in the past and all he does is Diesels... ecotune looks cool and they were very nice when I talked with them, thanks for all the help so far, this site is great for info on the 335d

I have RENNtech Flash with WAGNER IC, currently pumping 318 whp and 425 lb/torque on the wheels. Once i get that damn DPF removed I should be around 350 whp and close to 500 lb/torque on the wheels and BTW with OEM exhaust on it, plan to go 3" all the way thru

My ecotune flash was 289 whp/ 449 wtq on a mustang dyno. I did have a run that pegged 295 whp but the tq was a bit lower. With dpf removal it would definitely have gone over 300 whp, but sadly that car is gone.

Not sure who the best tuner is.. pick what you like, I think all are solid choices.

Good advice, I like Malone because there is a shop about 10 miles from my house who is a dealer of his, so its easy to trouble shoot any problems, and they were a great tune for the TDI...

I'm envious of you guys having local tuners. There was a guy on here a while back named Fat_ugly or something like that that had a shop in Houston. I was hoping to hook up with him but it has been for ever since i saw him post. Perhaps it is over on the 'fest.

It would have been nice if you'd kept a detailed log of all your car driving and maintenance info. Apparently you stumbled across the 1 combination of driving, use-case and environmental parameters that BMW used for designing the car to survive as-is.
