Ofhg gaskets and a thermostat to head hose
As the title says completed a oil filter housing gasket replacement. Also replace the coolant hose from the thermostats in the cylinder head. Check for leaks everything looks good. Engine malfunction light came on when starting to hard accelerate.
Where should I start? |

Read the codes. This will be your best first step. Most likely you just left off an electrical connector, so you could start with those as well.
If not electrical, did you loosen the intake manifold? You could have an intake vacuum leak. Again codes are your best first step.

I did loosen the intake. The only electrical thing I could think of is the fan connection since I removed the fan during the hose install. How can I get the codes? Will the parts store scanner be able to pic it up or do I need to go to a bmw shop? |

I guess you could go to the parts store and give us the generic codes altough it usually doesn't help much. If not you would need something a scanner that reads BMW specefic codes. Or use BMW software on your laptop/computer, most popular seems to be INPA or ISTA in combination with a K+DCAN cable (OBD2 to USB specefic for BMW) |

Found the culprit, a small vacuum line was disconnected. The serpentine belt was starting to run off track so I pulled the old one, sprayed engine degreaser on all the pulleys and the front of the motor. Then pressure washed it all off. She runs like a top now.

If that Belt Shreds, it could enter the Engine through the Main Crackshaft seal. Then you are possibly looking at an engine replacement. The DIY is pretty simple, if you DIY. I created this DIY: https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1075854 Good luck. |
