I tried to book a single at the hotel tonight on their online system but it isn't an instant response thing and they "reply within 24 hours". If I get one, that will reduce the pressure on the remaining rooms. The singles are £50

I'm not letting you taint our northern women with your Esswah fookwahing.

Besides which, they'd have you with black pudding and a pint of bitter for breakfast! (Or perhaps not in well heeled Harrogate).

Anyone know what Viv's likely to do? Presumably he'll sort a hotel room himself.

The W.H. Carl, yes? Since the names of the hotels seem to be a security issue, I've used the initials.

Your previous suggestion around Wetherby Road seems to be a good bet.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...06866&t=h&z=17

If we can get down Railway Road by Sainsbury's there appears to be a carpark. It's not a road that I've ever been down and presumably is used when The Great Yorkshire Show is on, but it appears to be accessible. Alternatively there is Sainsbury's itself.

Failing that there is a carpark off East Parade that I usually use.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...=18&iwloc=addr

At the junction with Park View.

Or a bigger one further up off Dragon Road.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...=17&iwloc=addr

I reckon off wetherby Road is the best option. How about 10.30 to allow time for checkout and travelling time for those not staying over on the Friday? We can make it to Whitby by 12.30-1pm depending on traffic, stop offs etc.

Sutton Bank is a must for photostop en route and Helmsley is worth a break for a coffee.

Railway Road would probably be better than E. Parade. As you go down Railway Road there is a gate that crosses the roadway except when there's an activity at the showgrounds. However, just past Sainsbury's there is a road going to the right to the Harrogate Pavilions. We might be able to "borrow" a portion of the parking lot there as a meeting place. Alternative would be the small lot adjacent to Railway Road right after the Pavilions road. Last resort would be Sainsbury's lot.

OK. Railway Road it is. 10.30am OK? Better for me 'cos we break for half term on the Friday and I will be bound to have a couple or 6. It takes us about an hour to Harrogate, so I don't want to be up too early!! Either that or the wife will be driving.

Is anyone coming along with wives/partners/girlfriends? My wife Ali is quite keen to join us all, but has just said that she doesn't want to be the only one. Obviously we have Helen, but in her own right as a driver, rather than a passenger. I see this as a friendly meet and all welcome with a pleasant drive over to Whitby and back and a sociable night out, rather than a fan boy hardcore burnout...

Your meet sounds like it is going to be fab

Like the idea of this pleasant drive to Whitby and back, almost sounds like a nice civilised classic car run, plaques anyone? "First Northern Meet - Harrogate?? to Whitby and back 2008" Don't forget to have a cream tea at Whitby too

Leave those Bimmers at home you boys and girls will be needing a few of these -

followed by plenty of these -

and a stop including one of these -

For guaranteed fun and a driving experience you won't want to end, not through doing 100+ through actually driving cars not steering electronic gadgets ...

ETA - whats the big secret with the Hotel????

aww , well im glad im not coming now

only joking ... im going on my road trip to europe tomorrow, so everyone have fun and behave out there in north yorkshire, be gentle on those southerners that are coming to our wonderful part of the country, just be aware they may appear to be slightly confused and lost at the lack of traffic and conjestion

i hope everyone enjoys themselves wish i could be there though !!

A Slight Problem Arises

I drove by Sainsbury's this afternoon and that parking lot that we were going to be meeting in is now a construction area. There are, however, two options in the immediate area. The first would be to meet at the Pavillions parking lot and the second would be the Sainsbury's parking lot. I'd suggest the Pavillions lot, northeast corner. There are activities at the Pavillions this weekend but there's a fairly large lot and we shouldn't be there too long, an hour or so. Of course, Yorkshire's finest will probably stop by and insist we move along.

For directions:
  • If you're coming up or down the A1, at Junction 47, A59 exit, turn towards Harrogate. At the first roundabout take the second exit onto A658. Take the second exit at the next roundabout. At the third roundabout (A661) take the third exit. At the first traffic light take a left onto Railway Road. Sainsbury's will be on the right. Pavillion's driveway is immediately before the construction site entrance.

  • From Leeds and the A61, take the A658 Bypass towards York. At the first roundabout (A661) turn left. Same directions as above at the traffic light.

  • From Bradford, take the A658 through Pool. At the second roundabout (A61) proceed straight. Turn left at the first roundabout (A661). Proceed as above.

  • From the west, well, I'd suggest taking the M62 to the M1 to the A1 and follow as above. However, for the Scots coming from the M6, Googlemaps suggests the A66 from Penrith to Richmond and down the A1. Drive carefully on the A66 as that road has more blackspots than a bad case of acne.

I think that covers it.
