Things you dislike about your 3-series/BMW
I know we all love our 3-ers on here - but some of you must hate at least one thing about it. I have a few little ones.
The 'Boot open' warning light doesn't flash/warn until you're in your car and driving off. That's REALLY annoying. The push button starter is such a faff. Why couldn't they just make it a simple - insert key and press button. The leather covering of the gear stick area squeaks on bumpy, slow roads. The Auto changer being in the boot. what, if any, are yours? |

It makes my wife nag me about the acceleration and resulting whip lash.

just a couple of minor things from me so far:
1) the side mirrors dont fold in when you keep the lock button on the keyfob pressed after leaving the car 2) the boot open button on the keyfob doesnt open the boot unless the dorrs are unlocked |

That's safety regs to stop people starting it in gear and driving through walls etc. Poor quality leather for a £42,390 car! |

This is the ONLY thing that annoys me about the car. It happens about only once or twice a month, probably I still press the boot open button by accident so I guess bad keyfob design is partly to blame here too.

What's with the downer on the leather. There has to be a balance between fine ingredients and usability. The standard Dakota leather is of great quality IMO - the finer and more expensive Nappa leather that you can spec is indeed a beautiful product but will soon scuff/mark/thin with regular use (hence why you can't have it with sports seats, as the constant sliding up and down the side support as you get in and out means that the leather artificially ages very quickly.)
Even with the kids standing all over it, bags, boxes and car seats dumped, dragged and denting the the seats - the Dakota holds up fantastically well - and can be returned to it's glory with a bit of conditioner. my gripes: i/ the cars ability to get dirty - it seems to draw dirt to it somehow, especially on the rear end. ii/ the front windows get a very irritating smudge/grease line running top to bottom when you open/close the window. iii/ after washing the car, when you open the door, the drop the window makes on the coupe means a little water smudge along the bottom edge from the seal. iv/ the headlight washers. i want to be able to wash my windscreen without covering my bonnet with spray from the headlight washer. v/ other people parking next to me in a car park too closely (clearly not a gripe with the car, but a gripe nevertheless).

+1, why couldnt they also use painted calipers? Pretty sure I saw a standard 1er the other day which had nicely painted calipers in black white white "BMW" lettering on them. Looked very tidy. Quote:

Keys now locked in the boot and no way of gaining access to the car. BMW assist sent out a chap to them but he couldnt do it, so they tried lifting the car onto a flatbed to take it to a dealer but in doing so crushed his side skirts etc...eventually they ended up getting their neighbour in the UK to FedEx out the spare keys etc. One saving grace though, as BMW assist couldnt help/made the situation worse they picked up the entire tab for the extra time they were stuck at their location etc. Now for my own: Poor quality paintwork. The "orange peel" effect isn't a bloody feature, it's just poor finishing. |

- My boot is stiff to close; also, every time you close it you get fingermarks on it.
- The whole runflat scenario. - Dealing with the "stealers." Jeff |

Ok. I've got one. The dealer network. Bunch of crooks. Possibly with the exception of Sytner. Or more to the point, with the exception of Anneka and Vic at Sytner.

Piss poor ride and feedback from the compromised suspension setup (slop and give engineered back into the bushes) to run Run Flat Tyres.
Down a winding B class road in Scotland it is utter crap. Any potholes looming up as you zip along cause alarm. D.
