rubbish standard sound system with fiddly display
rubbish display in binnacle, not enough info. looks wrong to have buttons on steering when the options are not there. the alu trip dents too easily and pits. rear seats don't fold as standard xenons are rubbish compared to my last Mazda6 MPS. Auto wipers and the toggle do nothing useful. windscreen is steep enough to pick up masses of bugs and stone chips. rattle from the dash binnacle choppy ride quality esp if tyre pressure is a bit off. rubbish tyre pressure warning system poor position of cupholders (passenger knees!) armrest is useless as standard. oh i do love the car though! |

Grrr... don't get me started on the fagin Runflat tyres, and no space for a spare.
I nearly didn't get another E92 because of this ... I seriously thought about a late model E60 with 19" rims, which come from the factory with non-RFTs, plus the E60 has a wheel well under the boot. Thankfully I came to my senses, and I'll just chuck the space-saver in the boot when I go more than 50 miles from home...

- Nasty inner tyre edge wear. Replacing two 19" tyres every 8000 miles isn't something I'd budgeted for
- Rusty hubs - Astronomically wide doors on the E92/E93 that had a tendency to suddenly swing out violently partway through their travel and clonk the neighbouring car (this got better with age/familiarity) That's about it really

RFT's
quality of leather/build quality....rattles etc. dated dash standard hi-fi poor rusty hubs inner tyre wear on 6 pots paint quality xenons should be better some reservations about recent reliabilty Overall, not convinced the cars are as good as they could/should be for the price tags. Shame but I think BMW are currently gunning for profit and have 'downgraded' the 3 Series (not M3) in some respects, when they DO have the ability/skill to produce cracking cars. I know the 6 Series is more money but they appear to be beautifully built from what I've seen. |

Main gripe - terrible speakers. Head unit is decent, subs under the seats a good step, but no tweeters, poor mids and no amp to drive them.
Other than that, the fact that my predecessor ordered an ES instead of an SE. It NEEDS rear sensors. |

I'm not getting the whole 'poor ride quality' thing here. The M-sport is specced with lower suspension - It's impossible to have a sporty car that's also perfectly comfortable over our sh*tty UK roads. I've driven allot of cars - and I can honestly say, not one of them gave a perfect balance of ride comfort and handling. My last car, a MK5 Golf GTi, came very close.
If you think the M-sport setup is bad - you want to try a S-line - it shakes the shit out of you. |

My E90 330i M sport crashed and bumped and rattled both me and its interior to bits but it was an '06 and I believe they've 'softened' the M sports a tad since mine was built. Never experienced the tramlining some people complained about on 18" wheels though, just the usual dull RFT feel and constant rumbling. |

Down a tightly twisting, undulating B road with varying cambers and mixed road surfaces where I drive in the UK, a well driven Focus will never be left behind by a BMW 3 series on 18+ wheels and RFTs. Throw in rain .... or manhole covers ... BMW even engineered give back into the suspension (with hydraulic rear frame mounts, allowing float) to compensate for the harsh, leaden RFTs. So, slop added to try and minimise the detrimental effects of the RFTs. No surprise whatsoever that BMW's M Dept don't touch RFTs, or hydraulic rear mounts. Some of these modern "sport" settings are purely marketing lead, and may look cool (or indeed "sik") in London or Munich. On real driver's roads they are a step back from the previous generation when it comes to feel, delicacy of feedback and ride. BMW (and Bridgestone) may well be working hard to try and make RFTs work. But it is that alone that will disuade me from buying a new BMW, much more than any FWD model. If I could get M3 suspension with normal tyres on a 335D they would have another sale. D.

worst thing about my car is...
when you're setting off in a rush, sometimes you let the clutch off too early and the car stops!!!!!! (i.e when you've just started it up) also when setting off in a rush you might want to put the seatbelt on once you've set off - but the arm will have already retracted as soon as you started to move - an extra 10 seconds would be great RFT's - would actually make me not buy another one...

An auto gearbox that is never in the right gear. In drive in search of economy its always in too high a gear, and in sport its always in too low a gear. So you want to be in 5th, but the car always selects 4th (Sport) or 6th (drive) at 50 mph for example.
Yes, i know, I should have searched longer and harder for a manual...... There just not that common with the bigger engines. |
