Garage List
on the business stereo, when you play a mp3 cd, it won't show the track names unless you press "list" twice. annoying.

Absolutely no rear seat area storage as standard, tight bastards on a £40k motor!

Let me think....

rusty hubs

cheap looking brakes

runflat tyres

cracking wheels 225M

start button and key slot on the wrong side

very easily scratched glass

....but I wouldn't swap it!

the worse thing for me is the ANNOOYYYING windows ..as always bmw make yet another coupe that does not seal properly on the windows with loads of wind noise where it does not seal well (not from the wing mirrors) funny audi seem to make thier coupes silent ..so it can clearly be done. SORT IT OUT BMW

Surely it's on the better (left) side??

Most of the world (left hand drive) has always had it this way, and the only reason most conventional cars in the UK have the ignition on the door side is because they were designed primarily as left hand drive cars with the lock to be on the right hand side of the wheel. The ignition lock and mounting and trim etc was costly to swap over for RHD, so they left it as was.

With an away-from-door key location you can get in, ignition on and and start the engine with left hand whilst shutting the door with your other hand simultaneously. In older, key ignition, UK cars you often banged your head on the window or door trim trying to lean round and see the damn keyhole!

Much better now IMO. Saves seconds of your life to do something more interesting with

When other manufacturers deviated from steering column mounted ignitions they were usually towards the centre of the car AFAIK (SAAB 900 ignition by the handbrake etc, renault card key slot under stereo etc)

That's interesting! I will look into that, though I'd be a bit shatten-panten about mucking about with the steering wheel. Maybe I could get it installed

Also agree with Sikkbass about the right hand AC vent - leaves you with one cold hand and one hot face!

Do you leave your light switch in 'Auto'? My headlight washers only work when I have the side or main lights on. In the daytime I leave the switch in the off position and only the windscreen gets washed.

The plastic film that coats the interior door handles, used on E46 models as well. BMW just take so long to change simple things that would make so much difference. +1 on rusty hubs!

1. Bloody steering wheel trim keeps flaking off

2. Stupid bluetooth and voice rec buttons are pre installed but most important devices isnt (not even the wiring).

3. Diesel engine stalls if you shoot off, you have to rev before you accelerate. (not sure if anyone else has this)

4. folding rear seats is an option

5. Have to bloody pay BMW £25 to take of the service light after a service even though i can do it myself.

6. Expensive insurance quotes for a 21 year old living in london...(That isnt really BMW's fault... but still....)

I love the car to bits though!!! does everything i need... my little donkey

Having owned the car a bit more I feel the need to update mine and compare the ownership experience to my old Audis:

1) RWD vs Quattro, fearing this Winter based on the last one. Could do without this stress tbh. Sorry but the UK is NOT geared to changing tyres as per the continent, not got the space to store tyres in the first place to do this.

2) Dead batteries; being fed BS about low millage driving when in reality it is a dodgy Alarm part that drains the battery over time. Old A3 had failed coil packs, Audi Assist came out and changed them with no BS whatsoever.

3) Courtesy car charge, NEVER have I been asked to spend extra money getting a courtesy car from an Audi 'Centre' yet BMW want £15 for this. WTF!

a) Runflats - (Now gone but I will never buy another car fitted with them).

b) Poor materials for interior (Came from an Audi - thinking of going back).

c) Crap BMW 'Professional' Standard Stereo System.

d) Window switches for the saloon to far forward on drivers door meaning you open the rear windows all the time by accident.

e) Rattles.

This is such a daft design flaw. I've been in three series with many other people and everyone has this problem.

I think that this has been resolved in LCI cars. It shows the track number for a few seconds and then automatically shows the track name. Wish that we could get a software update.

After 7,000 miles as owner (32,000 total)

1. Cracking alloys (not covered while under warranty)
2. Failing HPFP & Injectors (replaced as goodwill when just out of warranty)
3. Harsh ride of the RFT's (soon to be replaced)
4. Faulty rear light clusters (causing lamp failure warning, fixed under warranty)
5. Smelly aircon
6. The crazy amount of time it takes to recode meaning the car spends longer at the garage than it should (normally kept overnight)
7. Slow iDrive menus and the need to use it for basic tasks e.g. switch from radio to aux while using the satnav (normally I use the voice commands but my mates take the pee a lot when I say "audio aux" to the computer and if they talk at the same time the command fails leading to even more pee extraction)

- Auto on the 330d doesn't kick down fast enough if you are travelling at walking pace to start with, eg when you are entering a roundabout; so you have about 2 seconds with it in third at about 1500rpm while the car you should have given way to comes closer and closer followed by too much acceleration with some tail wiggling thrown in when it eventually kicks down into 1st and at about 2800rpm with the turbo spooled up. It's fine from a standing start though; the walking pace starts really mess it up.

- Nav costs £1500-2000 and doesn't work as well as a £100 Tom Tom (I didn't get it)

- Bluetooth costs £500 (didn't get that either)

- iPod/USB interface is cumbersome

- Can't get 330i petrol any more. I would have bought that instead of the diesel if it was still around.
