Rear brake advice!

I'd stick with OEM parts because I like the "BMW" feel of braking (stops on a dime).

I biught couple of weeks ago brake pads and the fluid from them. It was a pure pleasurrw to do business with them, i have the stoptech pads, very happy with it. Dont buy the cheapest brake op, you are talking about your safety...

I'm not looking for cheapest. I'm looking to decide between OEM and aftermarket (HPS), then finding the cheapest way to get those.

In case you guys are wondering, I went with AKEBONO pads and Meyle rotors.

happy so far! no noise, no dust like OEMs and soft braking cant beat that...

I have had both OEM rotors and the Centric. Centric are pretty damn good IMO. They preformed just like OEM. Any rotors are going to warp if your doing 160-40 stops (unless you spend big money on a bbk). When i put them on my 545 I had about 25K on the set when i sold the car and they were still beefy and not warped. I drove the hell out of that thing.

People say stick with OEM pads, yeah whatever I dont like cleaning my wheels every other day. And if you can get a pad thats quitter, lasts longer, better bite, and almost no dust screw OEM

Ill probably end up getting hps pads and OEM rotors, and finding a good install price. Only thing left is the brake squeaking issue and whether or not the HPF HPS pads are different from the ECS ones..

I got Hawk' HPS from ECS for rears and barely any dust compared to my front OEM brake pads. A week after washing and my front wheels are almost black. DIY, not very hard, I did'nt feel like paying $700 for something so simple to do.

Thats probably due to a rotor with bad lip and needs to be replaced, or the caliper pistons are not sliding evenly. I had this issue and replacing the rotors and pads stopped it. I also added grease to the sliding pins and brakets. Hope this helps

I would buy Bosch rotors and Bosch ceramic pads and do the job myself. There are a lot of videos on YouTube on how to do this.

Many vendors suggest stoptech over HPS, but I can't really understand why

If you want the best stopping power, Axxis ultimate or Hawk HP Plus (note, increased noise/dust/rotor wear)
Next level down is Stoptech or Hawk HPS, or Axxis XBG (metalmaster)
Lowest dust/noise will be Akebono

Stoptech rotors used to be Brembo, now they are Centric, Brembo is severely overpriced in most cases

if not tracking, a coated rotor hat is tops, like the Centric or Zimmerman rotors

What would be the braking feel difference between HPS and akebono?

I think I'm going to stick with OEM rotors

I'm in the same boat but have a few related questions, I'm at ~52,000 miles and hear a metallic scratching noise when slowing for a stop sign. I notice a ring forming on the drivers side rotor. But when I check the system info on the computer it tells me the brake pads are fine. I was told the sensor is only on one side of each axle and those pads might be good hence the reason the computer showing it's fine. Is this true?
Also do I also need to replace the rear rotors as well? My local indie shop says ~$500 per axle is what he charges and he mentioned that the rotors need replacing anyway.

Not sure, I have only used Axxis/Hawk/OEM pads
I can tell you for sure that I will only be buying the Axxis Ult pads on slotted rotors, and am very well aware of the reduced component life, but feel the superior stopping performance under all conditions is worth it (tires are by far the weak point now)

A 'low dust' pad should also be the most rotor friendly, like the Akebonos, my guess is the feel would be similar although that feel will probably vary widely with pad temp, if you are in the habit of getting the brakes hot, HPS is probably the way to go for a low dust pad
