And I was about to buy a set of winter tires becuz my Turanza is almost out of thread and here, Rochester, NY, has been snowing for a week and keep snowing.

I called BMWNA (1-800-831-1117) and asked them about the "recall" of Turanza.

They kindly answered my questions and set up an appoint at my local dealership for me.

I brought my car to the dealership today and tell them about it.

Make sure to bring a copy of that bulletin (http://www.bmwtis.com/tsb/bulletins/...p/B360606g.htm) and tell them

you already talked about it with BMWNA. I mean they will know about it.

As you can see from the bulletin, you need less then 10000 miles on the tires to get a free set. Other then that, you will need to pay 50 % of tires. No labor.

My car has about 12750 miles on it. I just told them tires only has about 9000 miles on it. I could tell that becuz I had aftermarket wheels&tires on my car today. Stock wheels&tires were on my rear seat.

So, they went through their policy and all that crap, I recieved a free set of Continental RFT + Wheel balance + allignment.

Go ahead and do it. Better hurry guys.
A few quick questions:
In your sig it says you have the ZSP -- shouldn't that come with the Potenzas, not Turanzas???
Also, whoever I talked to (dealers) they said that they had no Contis for the ZSP cars, only for the non-ZSP.

thanks

PS. I did get a free replacement (4 Potenzas) because of the same issue at 8000 miles about 4 months ago.

I bought and installed the Contis myself, still waiting for my reimbursement from the dealer, which BMW NA approved. "No, I don't have the tires any longer, I had them replaced at another location a few weeks ago because your service department told me the tires were the cause of the noise"

It might be difficult, unless you've already been in to your dealer and had them tell you it was the tires making noise, with a mileage reading. Making sure the installer notes the milage on the vehicle could be very important in a claim if you do it yourself.

I too just got all 4 tires replaced. Not sure which tires I got as the replacement though because the car is still at the dealer and I won't get it till tomorrow. I'm just pumped I got new tires at 6500 miles. It just delays the period of having to buy them on my own.

You racked up 22k miles in a year. It doesn't really matter which tires you were using. Unless you tires were visually close to new you'd have a chance but at 10k it becomes hard to tell. You must have a really LOOONG commute or you're putting too many unnecessary miles on the ride.

What really sucks is that I took my car into the dealership for my first service and I had only 17K miles on my car and I complained about the wear on my tires and the noise that it is causing. They said that there was nothing that they could do about it. This was back in June.

Just now, In January, this damn thing comes out and they say that they will replace them for at least 50% the cost. But the problem is that I now have 23K on my car. I had to take my car to get some different warrenty work done and had them look up my last service record and it showed that I was complaining about the tires. I made a big stink about it and hopefully they will at least replace them for the 50% cost. It will save me a ton of money because I have to replace the tires anyway before the end of my lease.

I think that this was all handeled poorly. I think that BMW should have made the run flat tires an option with a donut spare if they wanted to keep down the weight. Only having two options for replacing tires sucks and if you go up sizes, you have only one.

Don't get me wrong. My first BMW was an '89 e30 325is and when I departed with it I had owned it for 9 years and had over 150K on it. I traded it in on my e90. I miss that car. It was easy to fix and I had a full size spare and I had to replace the tires on that car only once. Only 3 sets of tires on that car for 150K miles. Now I have to replace my tires with only 23K on them! I don't even drive the car that hard.

I love my e90 and BMW but this was a bad marketing/design decision. I am thinking that once my lease is up, I may go back a generation or get a used 540i Sport.

I agree with you mlevere1992, and my situation is similar. Very poor handling of this problem, with no love to the early E90 owners who have had this problem since way before they acknowledged it.

My car is in the shop but my SA just called. No go on the free tire replacement I know he tried though, looks like I might bring it up with my selling dealership. The sticking issue, of course is the mileage. I tried to argue about the mileage on the tires vs mileage on the car but it wasn't flying with the management. So....that's about it for now.

Maybe, I'll drive up to Rochester, NY where zzinco is....

Yea, ZSP supposed to have Potenza.

But up here, Rochester, NY, getting nasty amount of snow every winter

so my dealer just put the style 158 rims with Turanza.

I dunno what is huge difference between Turanza and Potenza but the

dealer said Turanza is little betten in snow then Potenza.

And.. just go ahead and tell them you don't want any kind of Bridgestone tires.

Then they will gives you contis.

Yea, bring your car here then I will do something for you

My local dealership kinda hates me cuz I always give them a shitty point when BMWNA called me for survey.

And my dealer always gives me a phone call to apologize and sending me a few free car wash coupons.

Try to being an A$$hole and they will give you better service.

And.. were the tires on the car? or in the trunk?

You might have to put your tires on your trunk or something (If you had another set of tires...)

so you can tell them you haven't used the tires since 7k or 8k cuz its frickin noise.

They were on the car

I haven't tried the a$$hole approach, I'm too much of a nice guy I can't see myself living up to the BMW driver image

Thanks to this thread, I took some action with BMW and here's how the scenario went.

At around 7,500mi, my tires were getting very loud. I contacted my dealership and they said I should rotate my tires. So, I spent the $20 to have them rotated which helped with the noise for the next 4,000mi.

At around 11,500 I read this thread and the associated service bulletin. I contacted the dealership and they asked for me to bring it in to have the tires evaluated. The service foreman immediately noted I would need 4 new tires. My service advisor informed me I would be responsible for half of the cost of the tires.

I asked him since I notifyed BMW of the problem at 7,500mi if the tab could be picked up by BMW. They escalated it to the BMW regional who approved it and goodwilled the tires to me. 4 new Conti's.

So far, the Cont's handle great and the road noise has been reduced tremendously. I can hear the engine roaring again...

Looking back, BMW did the right thing here. It's a shame some of the other members are having a difficult time getting this worked out...good luck and happy motoring!!

Can someone explain what it sounds like? I have these exact tires and they're not that loud.. I'm at about 15K, but I had other rims on for about half of that in the summer. When I wash the car I'll try taking a closer look at the tread as well..

It a noticeable rumbling or roar or grinding, if you have it, you won't miss it.

Thanks for the response. I will listen for it on the way home from work. I didn't hear it this morning, however, I'm used to hearing those types of noises on the way to work so I might not be able to distinguish the two..

New Tires

Picked the car up yesterday and got four new EL42's I tried to get different tires but the dealer was paying 100% for everything so I just took the new Bridgestone’s and ran.
