General noise reduction E90
Firstly, Please forgive me if I am posting this in the wrong place or covering a subject that has been extensively discussed.
I love my 2010 330D SE but I hate the fact that the engine is so noisy especially when cold and at tick over. There is nothing wrong with the engine, just that I wish it to be more quiet. My prime interest is how to substantially reduce the noise inside the cabin? I am considering an engine blanket but don't really know if it will help as there is already some kind of engine cover fitted as standard but I expect it is not a great help? I would also like to reduce road noise. I have seen people painting the wheel arch liners with absorbing gunk, copious amount of dynamat or equivalent but I don't know if this will help as I don't know what BMW do as stock. If necessary, I am quite prepared to remove seat, carpets door covers etc. but removing the dash is probably beyond me. I have no rattles to speak of and I have no interest in upgrading the sound system from stock. My sole interest is to make things much quieter rather than some fancy noise. I would be very grateful for some guidance on this matter, both what to do with what materials but also what not to do. Thanks guys |

I'm afraid I have no advice to offer, but I must express my surprise that you find your car noisy! I have the 335d and when cruising along the motorway with the radio off, I am always so impressed by how quiet and refined it is.

Contact Bavarian Sound Werkes to see if they will sell just their sound deadening kit to you.
It install in the door panelling to limit the amount of ambient noise. $30 on their site w/ purchase of a speaker kit. Not sure if they will sell it separately.

Thanks for the responses so far. I got rid of the Run flats ages ago. I was actually looking for advice from anybody who has done some sound deadening and knows what is fitted as standard and particularly if anybody has fitted an engine blanket to reduce noise??
