White smoke 330d 08

I've noticed recently in this lovely cold climate we are having that my 330d seems to be smoking white more than usual.

Only seems to do it from cold. Once warm it settles down fine.
When cold under acceleration it seems to give of a nice cloud. Only issue is i'm not Mr Bond escaping the rozzers.

but do the same once warm and no issues ...
oil is good. oil cap is good. no rough running. pulls fine. drives fine.
could this be egr cooler issues?

answers on a postcard please

(just thinking with short journeys heating the engine and cooling could i just be causing bad condensation or am i just hoping haha)

Almost certainly condensation. White smoke from a diesel is most unusual, typically poor combustion in sub zero start ups, plus it is acrid smelling and lingers.

My car will put out condensation even after a 12 mile return trip, in the present freezing conditions. Cold temperatures, humidity and dew point all work together to make lots of the stuff.

As long as you are not losing coolant, I'd say it is normal winter condensation.

Humm, that's interesting - I've got an 08 325i but have exactly the same symptoms - some white smoke and using a very small amount of water, probably about 400ml in 15k miles. Obviously totally different engine (both direct injection though) but the symptoms are so similar.

not loosing coolant either. at one stage i was having to top up once a month .
car seems to be warming up quicker now and heater is warm quicker. all good.

id seriously think about checking the cooler if your getting white smoke

ill get a pic of the old cooler and what it looked like when removed. !

As you see in the 3rd picture there is water/coolant where there should be dry and sooty.
Instead coolants been escaping and being exhausted as that lovely white steam from the exhaust.

And can confirm there was a big difference on my e90 330d following the changed cooler!!
