See thread linked below for comprehensive list of what is covered, for HOW Long, and the Warranty Conditions, such as WHERE vehicle sold:

2011 requires only that the car be *currently registered* in a SULEV state. Other model years required that it was *originally purchased/registered* in a SULEV state, but per the attached document:
Quote:
*The California Emissions Control System
LimitedWarranty SULEV (PZEV) applies to all
2011 U.S.-specification BMW SULEV (PZEV)
vehicles registered in California, Connecticut,
Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey,
New Mexico, New York, Rhode Island or Vermont.
See page 50 (pdf page 56) of the attached PDF, which was the original warranty documentation for the 2011 model year. This file doesn't include the list of covered parts but the attached screenshots are what I've found of the components covered for the 2011 N51 cars (I think it's from an internal BMW doc). Plus, per this document, if you fail an emissions test, then whatever is required to fix it should be covered, even if it's outside the list.

In my experience, if there's a check engine light, your stuff will be covered. I got new O2 sensors and new cats and the dealer didn't blink. If there's no CEL (e.g. leaking valve cover gasket), it depends on the dealer but at the end of the day, if it's components on that list, then they should be covered. Some people have had to loop in BMW NA to escalate it but I haven't heard of anyone getting screwed.

thank you all for the information. I got a "P2096 Code: Post Catalyst Fuel Trim System Too Lean (Bank 1)" code with the light on the dashboard.

I think every time there is a Service Engine Soon light it should be covered.

That’s been my experience. I’d recommend calling to make an appointment (since then you can request a time slot when they’ll have a loaner available - due to car shortages most dealers have a smaller loaner fleet). Just tell them that it’s a SULEV car and the check engine light is on and you shouldn’t have to say anything else.
