Will F30 Mirrors fit on an E90?

If they do there is a significant chance of doing a top view camera retrofit and a slight chance of blind sport monitoring.

Anyone have a F30 and a E90?

Most likely, The non M and M cars have the same mirror bolt pattern.

Wait, so basically I would need to remove my brother's M3 side mirror, and see if it can fit on my E90.

Hummm... I would have better luck ask him to donate his children.
Hahaha.
Here is what I can help with: I'll take measurements of the plate that covers the mounting bolts

Sorry, that's all I can touch with his car, not much help, I know.

I was looking at F30 parts prices and I do not think the blind spot monitoring retrofit is worth it at this time. It would be at least $1000 in parts. I think a DIY NBT retrofit would be better than the blind sport monitoring.

How about the welcome light, the light carpet.
My dad's 7 series has it, and it's nice.

Or a way to get interior ambient light (door handle, door panel strip, etc.)

Just learn to adjust your mirrors properly. Zero cost.

Same kind of comment I got when I said I'm going to retrofit heated steering wheel "just get some gloves".

I hate iPhones because I can't hack and customize them.
I like to customize my car with what I can in term of budget and skill.

I have never been pulled over, gotten in any accident, curbed a wheel or put a scratch on my car.

This is more of an engineering experiment than anything else.

LOL. When you get to 873,000 combined miles on your BMWs (360,000 on one car alone), 95% DIY maintenance and repair, then call me. Challenge yourself

Sorry, went today to the parts department and tried to see if they have one at hand, to see if I can take profile measurements of the base and bolts locations.
Was planning on going to a body shop next, but I guess you are already on your way.

I've got a pair of F30 mirrors waiting for me at home. I've been away for a week, but am heading home today.

I can take some measurements tonight. I expect all the functions such as heating, folding and tilt to work as normal. I'm hoping that the turn indicator works after hooking that wire up to the FRM.

Assuming all that works, I plan on painting them and hooking up the cameras (they have the top view cameras).

Well it's definitely not going to be a simple swap, but I think it might work.

In the pictures below you can see a number of differences, the main ones being that the E90 mounting posts seem to be flush with one another, while the F30 has one post that is much longer than the others. Other differences are the post nearest the connector is more towards the corner on the F30 mirror, and because of the additional camera connector the housing is bigger.

The good thing is that two of the mounts appear to be in the same locations, and the overall size of the mirror bezel appears to be the same - the e90 is just a hair larger, but I think that might not matter.

I'm pretty confident I can mount the mirror by 1) trimming down the longer post 2) drilling a new hole for the post that's moved, and 3) expanding the housing hole for the larger connector housing. My fears are 1) the orientation of the mirror changes and looks 'off', and 2) while close the overall bezel shape/size is different enough to cause problems with aesthetics or water leaks. The 2nd issues might be surmountable by using a rubber membrane or reshaping the bezel by adding some fiberglass.

At this point seems that getting the cameras and drilling the bottom of the E90 mirror seems the best approach.
And I guess a bit of custom wiring/harness is needed as well.
Any idea of the cameras height inside the housing?

Very interesting. I wonder if the top view mirror stitching will be correct on the E90 if the mirror location has changed.
