Should I upgrade Coils?

I am doing a Cobb Stage 1+ on my 2013 335is with 24k miles on it. Will OEM coils cut it, or should they be upgraded? No intent of further mods after this. Thanks

First, go MHD not Cobb and yeah either way you'll be fine with stock coils.

Stock coils are fine for tunes. Do fresh plugs as well. They will both need to be changed more often with a tune. Like said above do not go the Cobb route. MHD for sure !

Oem Coils should be fine, if they fail, replace with Delphi or Eldor ones.

Personally replaced plugs with new Bosch ones and Eldor Coils all round, never had any misfire issues after.

Would suggest you go MHD stage 1+

Assuming you already upgraded Intercooler?

Stock coils should be alright.
Go MHD it is better, actually has current support and is far cheaper than COBB. Also uses your phone. Android or iphone.

Upgrade your chargepipe. Otherwise youll probably blow the stock one up at tuned boost levels and end up stranded on the side of the road. Its easy and inexpensive.

Thanks for all the replies. Upgrading charge pipe next week along with coils/plugs. Intercooler next Spring before tune. I’ll look at the MHD much closer on the recommendation s. I’m using the Cobb charge pipe and intercooler.

The hardware will be similar to other brands like VRSF however software wise MHD is the far superior tuning software for this platform and is updated modern day and continues to be every few months.

OEM coils seem to cause people far less problems than aftermarket coils......

You can try Bosch Coils. Some have a problem with them, most don't.

I don't think I have ever read a post on this forum or others where someone had a problem with Eldor coils and they were under 600hp.

I figured Eldor and Delphi count as OEM still along with Bosch haha, everything after that I consider an upgraded coil so by that definition than no you don't need upgraded.

However if you consider either one of those upgraded over OEM, than yes upgrade your coils and go with Eldor (or Delphi lol) and you'll be all set. I'm ordering new Eldors next week.

well it's usually the wallet that stops us, otherwise FBO would be a bare minimum and we'd all be gunning for Stage 2 turbos, lol

I got mine at FCP. I'll probably just turn them in for new ones every 50 to 60,000 miles.

ECS price matched for me, I have Turner inlets on order with them now also. I think I'm around 20k on coils right now . Well over a year ago so no idea, but I've carbon blasted and plugged the low side with new injectors and plugs in the past 1k, along with new oil and coils she'll be tip top.

Price matched to who, FCP? If so, why not buy from FCP directly for the warranty? It's not like their prices are all that much higher, anyway.

Yep, I figure on a tuned car everything lasts 1/2 as long.
