Those with the roof slamming down
Mine seems to intermittently close harder when it hits the cowl (or whatever it's called) at the top of the windshield, and sort of makes a bang when it does it. Usually, it's quiet when it contacts that area when it's closing, that's why it sounds like slamming when you can hear metal hitting each other. is that the right description for the problem?
or does it really slam down hard in the last foot as it's coming down? The posts and the bulletin all refer to the user not being able to close the roof though unless they press the top up button a second time. I've never had to do that. Mine closes even when it slams, while pressing the button just the one time and holding it down. Do i have the famous roof slam issue? Mine's a May 2008 build too, so I'd have thought the new micro switch has been used hopefully. Maybe I'm just being paranoid! |

Lotus, when your roof comes down, does it slow down as it approaches the top? if not, you probably have it and better get it checked quick before something messes up - this will prolong your stay at the dealer.

OMG!! I just locked my car, reached in and pressed the unlock switch on the dash and my glovebox and console unlucked like someone said!! How f'ing stupid is that? I actually felt more confident parking with the top down since everything locked. I am finding more and more stupid things about this car. If the windows are up with the top down, it's a lot more difficult to touch the switch since reach is an issue. Unbelievable!

Told dealer, and they said they fixed it by: "Inspect regulator and door latch. Adjust preload & lube." I didn't hear it on the way home, so hopefully they found and fixed it. It wasn't happening all the time either, so i'm guessing it was from the roof closing funny sometimes, but we'll see. It does slow down actually, so I'm probably just not used to the clanking noise when it locks. I wouldn't classify it as slamming. Just makes some extra noise when locking onto cowl sometimes. |

yeah, you're ok then. Mine actually didn't slow down and slammed....the clanking noise are the pins locking in hopefully no other problems arise for us

Do you have the pictures for this TSB. Is the foam being applied to the trunk or to one of the roof panels. This was not very clear from the description. thanks for the TSBs.

this only happened a few times but when I unlock the car and open the door the open rolls down half way then closes when the door is shut. I must of did something different when I unlocked the car? This happens for the passengers side as well

[QUOTE=Lotus99;3297227]I had the same issue, although very small, and could only be heard if you've got radio off. It was from going over very small road bumps. Was a quick sound, as if the driver's window flexing against the top's rubber was producing it.
QUOTE] so I have the same problem, but I've taken it to the dealer 2X, and both times they've come back and said "cant reproduce problem" maybe I'll tell them to "inspect regulator and door latch and adjust preload and lube" But I'm wondering if they'd know what to adjust / change / modify if they don't know what the problem is???

I took the tech out with me on the same roads I was used to hearing it on (very close to dealer) and he could hear the same noises. Might want to try to figure out exactly the strech of road close to the dealer that you consistently hear the noise and take them for a drive with you.

So a few people noticed that my exhaust was getting black really fast, and they thought it was peculiar.... anyone have this problem? I honestly haven't paid that much attention to it to even know if it's a problem?
aparently it's an indicator that the engine's not burning oil correctly, so al the excess oil is seen on the exhaust.... any thoughts anyone?

I had this on my E46. The garage told me it's a function of clicking the unlock button twice rapidly. I wasn't convinced as I struggled to reproduce this consistently. I'll try it on my new E93.

+1 - I have the same problem. Infact I was able to reproduce it to the mechanic during a test drive.

They can adjust the windows laterally (in and out). I've been having problems with the anti pinch system, so they moved in the rear windows a bit so there wouldn't be as much friction on the front ones as they go up, but now I've got a rattle instead when I go over bumps as the front window rattles against the rubber strip on the rear window.

My wife has a 02/07 production 335 with the factory 19's and roof rattles have been a problem since almost day 1.It is in at the dealer right now as we speak for about the 4th time to try to get it resolved. It has had the microswitch changed for the roof banging down and the rattles have been much worse since that was done about 6000kms ago.We have had quite a few other cars with the retractible hardtops and this is the worst one that we have had for rattles of all of them.At least with the SLK's when they went in they got fixed 1st time.In comparision my E92 M3 is silent like a tomb.

E93 335 Black:
Problems: 1 driver side window rattle over rough surface; 2 steering jerks BADLY driving at speed over potholes compared to Audi, VW and Porsche. So bad that I dare not drive fast, over 130km/h on certain stretches of road. 3 some kind of knocking in the roof when it is closed. Exhaust sounds great at start up ( like race car ) and up to 2k rpm, then gets silent. Tons of torq and very smooth. |

When the 19" RFT's wear out I will replace them with non-runflats as my M3 rides much better with the 19" PS 2's & EDC on it. |

So I'm going to get the fluttering problem fixed tomorrow.
I've also had this window rattle on the driver's side window whenever the top is down and the windows are fully up. We'll see what they fix....*crosses fingers* hopefully more stuff fixed than broken >.< |
