DME unlocked? How can i check?

Hey guys,

I have a buddy with a 2012 135i and he wants to try MHD. He said he got into contact with a local guy recommended by a MHD partner and got his DME unlocked. He said the guy took out the intake and connected a KTAG to his car without the DME physically removed.

I am not doubting his car's DME is unlocked but is there a way to check whether a DME is unlocked with the MHD app? I just want to make sure everything is ready before downloading a tune to his car.

thanks,

You wont be able to flash it if it isn't unlocked but it wont be an issue if you were to attempt while it is locked. I heard that "bench flashing" can now be done without opening the unit so it is possible that someone left it connected to the intake manifold, unplugged the wiring harness, then flashed it.

Flash times are continuing to improve but the first time I flashed MHD it took around 30 minutes and the battery pretty much died when I was running 2 amps. Keep in mind this is when the fuel pump would run during the entire flash and I didn't pull the fuse. I have since done all my flashing on 10 amps without any issues. If 10 amps proves to not be enough then I would look into the condition of your battery or your alternators ability to charge the battery.
